I wonder if Fletcher would have a handshake agreement with another team if he got a great offer for Simmonds, but he won't move him until after the outdoor game. It would be a classy move. - bmoreflyer
Bad idea - injury would likely void the deal |

some overlap with players, but also slightly different eras. i was probably to young to appreciate early gretzky, but from 88-95 mario was just such a dominant, transcendant player even with substandard talent early oni dont see how hes not viewed as 1b to waynes 1a.
i know gretzky scored 200 plus twice, but mario put up 199 with such a lesser talent base. - twotoekenn
Gretzky actually did it 4 times. He ans Wayne, to me, are 2 and 3 (take your pick) after Orr. |

Anyone can get hurt in any game, practice or elsewhere. I don’t believe that is a reason to not let him play if he is still with the team...and yes, that is what I think. - NC Flyers Fan
I think there’s an increase in chance of getting injured in an outdoor game as the ice is impacted by outside weather whether it’s the sun or even snowing. |

youre right, for a five year stretch wayne avg 206.6 pts per game. hard to argue against that. |

It sounds nice, but no GM in a million years would do that. On either side of the deal. - MBFlyerfan

What's up with all the emphasis on the outdoor game? People honestly think Fletcher would tell a trade to hold on because he wants Simmer to play in the outdoor game? No chance. - ClaudeFather
Last Flyers game before the TDL and against Pitt a team they need to take points from...other than that nothing... |

No, I think it’s more the interesting timing of the outdoor game, right before the trade deadline. - NC Flyers Fan
Simmonds may not be traded til the 25th but i can't believe in a million years it would be about a "handshake deal" to allow him to play in the outdoor game. |

I disagree. If Fletcher is trying to get the best deal and the other team is really interested, it can easily drag out until the deadline. Maybe re-signing is still on the table or there are multiple interested other teams...there are lots of reasons Simmonds might still be with the team for the outdoor game. - NC Flyers Fan
Yeah ok. But there is no way two teams would reach a handshake deal and risk a player getting injured before the trade took place by allowing the player to remain with the team until after a game...outdoor or otherwise. Comon dude, get real.

I can't see the handshake deal I mean we've seen players leave a bench mid game due to a trade being imminent. |

i think wayne will take less money to stay here. just a gut feeling, i think he was really close to mr snider and wants to continue his legacy. |

It's not a money thing that the team should be worried about it's the term. Wayne is probably looking for 5-7 years at 6-7 million a year. Not sure if the team wants to go there. |

Which trade deadline acquisition should be avoided. Simmonds or Panarin?
Those guys are the ones that every team buying is going to look at. |

Yeah good points about the hand shake agreement. Nice thought, but could you imagine if he gets hurt. Opposing GM will instantly say.. uh what handshake?
Anyway, I still think there's no way he is moved until TDL, which is a couple days after the outdoor game. So the fans should give him a nice ovation. Although he clearly is lolly gagging out there. I think it was last year when we fought a few games in and banged up his hand so badly, wasn't the same player aftewards. He might not be willing to lay it all on the line until he gets that new contract. |

what i mean is cap hit, wayne doesnt seem to be a guy that will push for max value. the last game i went to was the game before mr snider passed and simmonds seemed to be touched by him more so than most current flyers. maybe im wrong, but he seems to be an old school guy that the crest on the front ,means more than the name on the back. |

Depends...If you are also hoping to sign the guy long term then you avoid Panarin...if you don't care about losing your assets for a rental and you need a playmaker in the top 6 then you go with Panarin...If you only need a top 9, don't want to overpay and need some toughness and a guy you know is going to give you all they have then Simmer is a better choice...it just depends on what the team needs and what they are willing to give up. |

So I wonder if tonight both teams bring out the Alternates, aka the Old Stadium Series sweaters. Would be a cool build to the next game between them. |
