Out of town scoreboard doing us no favours. - Atomic Wedgie
We no longer need out of town scoreboards to be a good team. Unless you're in a pool it doesnt even matter. |

Ovi played over 20 mins. That’s fine and dandy. Completely irrelevant to what is being argued here. And that’s how much the 4th line will play.
Their 3 lowest played players(who played
more than 3 games)
12 mins
11 mins
9 mins
Enough with this 4th line players will play 6 mins in the playoffs crap. Get off your Xbox. - Santo_44
So what are the other lines playing? Give me you run down, I would love to hear it?
So you believe Babcock will play his top 3 centres the same about of time in the playoffs?

How many of those minutes were they playing against the other teams top lines?
1 shift maybe when they got caught?
Do you really think having the goat play 10 minutes instead of Glendenning or whoever the current flavor of the month is, is going to be the difference between a cup or no cup?
This is just such a dumb, non issue. |

Do you know how the rules work in the NHL? Home team gets to choose who goes out last.
And to your other question. The answer? Huh? No player is the answer. This is a hockey team and every player contributes.
I’ll tell you one thing. That player who would be replacing the Goat has a hell of a lot more of a chance of helping the Leafs than a 4th/5th round pick |

5v5? Yes. He will roll 4 lines as much as he can.
Like any NHL team. No team has their entire 4th line play 6 mins a game in the playoffs. |

4th lines don't get caught playing the oppositions top lines all the time. Despite last change, because our coach isn't a moron. Send out the 4th line more at home when you do have last change, or do it on the fly. You know, like what actually happens in reality.
Just like Plekanec was totally the difference we needed to make it past Boston last year... Oh wait, no he wasn't. But Boyle was a difference maker, oh wait, no he wasn't either.
We'll win or lose depending on our core players. |

It would if this was a Sens blog. I hear Pierre Dorian and Eugene Melnyk make all of their major decisions after reading hockeybuzz comments sections to get a feel for the consensus opinions on what they should do. |

Give me the break down. By the way, the leafs top centers average about 52 minutes a game. The Goat currently averages just over 8 minutes. The only time the leafs 4th lines touches over 10 minutes is usually during a blowout. During one goals games the Goat minutes go from between 6 to 8 minutes. Lindholm averages 11.5, but he was getting 15 minutes a game during Matthews injury. In the new year, he has play over 10 minutes 3 times. |

Serious. People saying like omg brah we have two top centres, just play three lines all playoffs, easy peasy. People need to put down the XBOX controller or put fatigue levels back on when the play. Yeah the Leafs top six is good but it's still a hockey team. - Zezel
Well. Maybe somewhat but not totally.
In the playoffs, you play your stars more
The 4th line when needed, but less for sure |

Trading down is always bad. In 2015 he could have taken Konecny, but now we're stuck with Dermott and bracco |

I saw this somewhere else, but thought I'd post it here to see what you guys think of it. It's a solution to the Marleau 'problem' next year.
After July 1st, Marleau waives his NMC clause and gets traded to a cap floor team, who immediately buys him out. Marleau then signs a one year, fourth line type of contract with the Leafs for next season.
How does this work?
The Leafs get rid of the cap hit and gain one that becomes a lot more manageable.
The team who signs him gets the hit to reach the floor, and possibly a pick and/or prospect to make the buyout worth their while. Remember, it's only $1.25M and they can pay it out over two years.
Marleau gets even more money out of the deal and stays with the Leafs.
It's a win/win/win for all involved. For those questioning its legality, it's what Washington did with Orpik, so it works.

Agreed.
This "we need to upgrade the fourth line or we're screwed in the playoffs" narrative is way overblown. It's like we're the only team that has a 4th line or something.
Do people honestly think our 4th line is that much worse than most other good teams?
If we can get an upgrade that doesn't cost much and won't hurt us down the line, then sure, go for it, but is it a huge deal and the make or break for this team's chances at success? (frank) no.
Oh no, our fourth line isn't perfect... Well our third line is likely one of the most dangerous in the league, and only a couple other teams can match our "2nd line", whichever you choose to label as such. This is much more important than the 4th line. - Thecakeisalie
the 4th line is about as big of a non issue as it could get |
