For another team to offer sheet Provorov...

I have no clue how much Provy is asking or what the Flyers are offering, but I would assume that offer would have to be 7m+ for him to accept it...if I am the Flyers I would take those draft picks and run or use those picks to pry another young defenseman away from someone.

No way. Must match.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how that jump from $7M+ to under $7M happened either.

All I did was write a basic comparison list for easily read numbers to show compensation, I didn't realize every single combination of scenarios would be needed for someone to understand something so simple.

7 years @ 7M....the Flyers are matching.

Whether someone thinks Provorov is going to get 2 million or 6 million doesn't matter. What would it take for Provorov to sign an offer sheet? It really is not tough to understand. A team has to grossly overpay a player to sign an offer sheet. In this case it would end up being FOUR 1st round picks...you get that right?

But as you already simplistically said...1st round picks only get you Luca Sbisa and Griffen Reinhart so what's the point.

For an offer sheet to Provy to yield 4 number ones the AAV will need to be over 10+

Not if they are four 1st round picks. I know people only look at picks as possible busts or many years down the road, but those types of picks are worth a lot. You could use those picks to get a young franchise defenseman who is better.

Better than Provorov? long-shot

Better is easier.

Better, similar age, and available for 4 1st rounders is a different matter.

"When a player accepts an offer sheet and his team declines to match the value of the contract, his former team is entitled to draft pick compensation in the next upcoming draft or drafts based on the averaged yearly salary of the contract. This averaged annual salary is determined by dividing the total compensation by the lesser of the number of years of the Offer Sheet or five years (the latter clause has potentially come into play with one offer sheet---offered to Shea Weber in the 2012 offseason)."

sorry, all of that was implied (even if I didn't express it clearly)

First, nobody is offer-sheeting Provorov.
Second, if anyone did, Flyers automatically match.
Third, there is no third.

There are none of similar age (young, as you say) and available for picks.

Seravalli notes that waiving the two players would free the neccessary space - as Petrovic carries a $1.95 million cap hit as a pending free agent and Manning counts for $2.25 million with one year left on his deal.

Both players were acquired in late December in the final two trades of general manager Peter Chiarelli's tenure with the Oilers.

Apparently the Manning trade got him fired...

a small 28 year old forward signed through 2025, yea no.
- ClaudeFather

Small doesn't matter if he can play. Johnson is skilled and quick. His cap hit is only 5M. He's the kind of player the Flyers need. His age is not ideal but he is the kind of player I would consider adding if it doesn't cost any of the future. All for not. TB isn't trading him for Simmonds.

He's not a bad player or anything but we already have G, Jake, and JVR as older forwards locked up long term with significant dollars. I'd like to avoid adding a 28 year old second or third liner who might take minutes away from a TK or Lindblom.

Attention all internet keyboard warriors, people say things and don't mean exactly what they said. In this case i would assume the point was that taking multiple firsts in compensation for Provorov would not amount to a Dman equal to Provorov nor would the sum of the drafted players. Provy is a franchise Dman which will be very difficult to replace.
- ClaudeFather

I absolutely love Provorov, but I'm not calling him a franchise defenseman. Howe was a franchise defenseman. Lidstrom was a franchise defenseman. Provorov right now is a top pair defenseman with #1 and all-star potential. I'm very happy with Provorov.

Regarding whether or not to accept the deals.... depends on the team making the offer. If its teams like Edmonton, Buffalo, Seattle, or Arizona I might take it hoping your getting a few of their typical top 5-10 picks. If its San Jose, or Toronto... most likely a no.
