I tried to do a top 10 forwards of all time. The top 5 are Lemieux, Gretzky, Howe (grandfathered in), Crosby, and Jagr. McDavid isn't there yet, it's only been 3+ years.

Why does someone need to be grandfathered in to an all time list?

I know time heals wounds so looking back, I really feel that we were spoiled getting to watch Lindros every night. He was everything I wanted in a hockey player. Could take the game into his own hands and seemed like he would single handily win it. He could run you over or drop the gloves and kick the sh!t out of some pretty tough guys. Good speed, great hands, nasty shot. I haven't seen anything like him since.

Another top Flyer talent, IMO, was Peter Forsberg. Unfortunately we didn't get to see that much of him (or in his prime) and he did suffer through some injuries here. I just remember watching him handle the puck in traffic and find guys with passes. Also a very good shot.

Finally, the Sixers are rid of the putrid stench of big-collared, league appointed crony and nepotism hire Colangelo.

In Hinkie we trust. Brand making money mooooves!

If you're gonna go by abilities, I don't how how Daigle gets left off the list. Dude was a can't-miss as you can get.

Also, if we're going by accomplishments, I think Lidstrom has to be on the list, as they could have renamed the Norris Trophy after him.

- jmatchett383

I do remember Daigle being an undisputed #1 pick and many comparisons thrown out with his incredible skill, but I never read the can't miss part. I guess it depends on who you read back then. Even prior to the draft there were questions about his commitment. I remember one interview he said (paraphrasing, will look for exact quote) "I don't know if I love hockey, I am just very good at it". He stated numerous times his dream was to be a Hollywood actor, not a professional ice hockey player.

And this was just MY list, you are more than happy to make your own.

I'm OK if the Phillies don't get Harper. They've done a lot this off season to improve the team and I'm comfortable with where they are.
- johndewar

I am not.

I want one of the mega stars. You come out and say "stupid money" then you better get it done.

Generational players that I’ve seen in my lifetime:

Bobby Orr
Wayne Gretzky
Mario Lemieux
Sidney Crosby
Connor McDavid

That’s it. A generational talent is a player that is clearly and obviously better than the other star players of his era. These guys are extremely rare.

Marty Brodeur would be on my list.

Although Lindros would definitely be considered generational based off his skill set and size combination. Most players get the tag prior to their pro career.

And he absolutely did get that tag.

Roy was before I started watching hockey and Hasek was very good but already in his twilight years when I saw him.

I know, did I write something that makes it seem like I just heard about Lindros? Serious question I am not trying to be a Richard here.

Was reading about him in the late 80's when Hockey News used to write about him when he was 13-14 years old. I still even have those special "Score" cards of him before he was drafted, someone out there has to remember those cards.

For 3 reasons:
1) While the 70s, 80s, 90s, etc. are all different the 50s era was a completely different kind of game, so incredibly hard to rate.
2) No Europeans or players from outisde of "traditional" markets in the USA meant a lower level of competition.
3) Not as much footage of him, as archival footage is hard to find.

Also, from what I HAVE seen of Howe...as great as his numbers are, I've never been wowed by him the way the other players did. He may very well be the best grinder in the history of hockey, essentially.

But, at the end of the day, his numbers alone, and his longevity, mean that he kind of has to be on the list, even though he'd likely be a 3rd liner in today's game.

Glak, I hesitated to get involved. I didn’t get to watch Lindros play so normally, I read and move on...but as an anonymous internet friend, I didn’t really understand what you were trying to say.

Don’t get mad okay.

His first licensed hockey card was 90/91 Score #440, the "FUTURE SUPERSTAR" card. Also, if you bought the boxed set, it came with a 5 card Lindros subset. In 91/92, Score put out 3 more cards of him, 2 junior trophy winner cards and 1 other(can't remember what it was). He also appeared in the French version of 90/91 Score in the Memorial Cup winning team picture.

He technically appeared in the 91/92 Upper Deck set, it was a Team Canada Canada Cup card featuring him and Hull, but he wasn't mentioned by name (Score had an exclusive with him prior to 92/93).

Also, he had a card in the 1990 Score Baseball Traded set from when he had batting practice with the Blue Jays.

Goaltenders are tough because their stats rely a lot on how the team performs..

Raw skill as a goaltender I would put Hask, his puck tracking and agility I don't believe will ever be matched, above Brodeur and Roy.

Accomplishment-wise that honor has to go to Brodeur, but both him and Roy were propped up by incredible defensive teams early in their careers. Roy more so because early in his career he played for one of the best defensive teams ever that came with a potent offense then later with Colorado. The in between is when Roy started to see a struggling Montreal team and his play showed. Even Brodeur looked human when NJ went away from their defensive system.

I would still rank them Brodeur, Hasek and Roy for me.

So while you never said, "Lindros didn't have that tag prior to his pro career," putting these 2 sentences together seems like you implied it.

Dear Chuck Fletcher,

It's not necessary to keep pace with your counterparts Klentak, Brand or Roseman. Please be smart.

Thanks,

Still waiting on that Kawhi Leonard trade that the Sixers were making after crushing that young man's dreams an hour after they made them come true.

I have them all and pretty sure I have at least 40 of the "Future Superstar" card. I was told they would be worth a fortune in the future....Sadly the card collectible hobby went into the toilet after they started to release special card inserts.

I still treasure my Gretzky, Lemieux and Pelle rookies though, don't care what they are worth.

I feel like a lot things are being implied, but I said "would definitely be considered generational". Not sure how that is taken as "maybe" or "not sure"?

The Future Superstar ran about $20 for the English and $30 for the French in the early 90s. It's not so much the insert craze that killed it, but it definitely didn't help either. After the Lindros craze died in the market by the mid-90s, the cards became cheaper and cheaper until they bottomed-out in the late 90s, and never recovered.

Gretzky and Lemieux rookies, on the other hand, will never drop in value.
