The scariest bit from last night was someone posting Sully's quote about the reason JJ Pettersson pairing being poop was a symptom of other team problems. If that's really how they feel the team is doomed. |

On a 8 year deal it was looking like 13+ million which just was too much for the Leafs. I don’t mind Matthews Marner JT getting their money, and cutting costs at the bottom of the line up. Want the whole contract circus the media is talking about everyday to be over already and just move on. - ClarksonDavid
I'm basing the extra 900k-ish on him not taking more than McDavid, which he never should be paid because McDavid >>> Matthews |

Yeah that was me from Mackey's 20 thoughts. I don't know its really tough to evaluate our current roster without Schultz on the blue line. That Pettersson Johnson pairing will suck regardless, but Schultz's return means A) they can be hidden, and B) the middle six will have a puck mover that can actually facilitate offense which could increase the effectiveness of lines 2 and 3. We have nights where we come out and look dominant, what we're really lacking is consistency, not talent. If Schultz can increase that level of constancy, I think we're in a good place. |

Well here’s the only thing I’ll slightly agree with regarding that statement... If the Pens are playing their best hockey as a team it will definitely make life easier for that pairing, but also mask the problem.
Not sure at what point they will be looked at as a cause. |

They could offer up infinite BJs to whichever team takes JJ from us. |

He just... laid there... he didn't take away the passing lane or do anything to stop Svech from getting to the net. No idea what the plan was. |

Don’t disagree with you there Mcdavid is a better player and not that close right now either but he was getting more then McDavid on an 8 year deal, because he could have. If not in Toronto, it was somewhere else. He was in a unique spot where he could wait and someone would offer sheet him as much as offersheets have been BS in the past for a guy like Matthews on a team like the Leafs that really wouldn’t or couldn’t afford for the numbers to get that high. McDavid probably took less then he should or could have took in the first place anyway just so his team could piss it away on the Russels and Lucic’s of the world and that was two years ago now, I believe so cap is higher. |

Yeah...well here's to hoping things work out for you guys in the next 5 years, if not I think he's gone. Personally, I believe things have a good chance of working out for you guys...no guarantees in sports though. |

Here's why you don't want Micheal Ferland.
https://chriscote9.wixsit...he-Six-Million-Dollar-Man - BINGO!
I mean I'm pretty sure all of us know that Ferland would be a rental if we got him. After the Florida trade I don't really want him anymore, though. I'd rather just keep our stuff. |

Hopefully Geno will be back soon and we can get a look at this forward group all healthy. |

I wouldn't look too much into that statement because if whatever the moves he's made haven't had any positive effect on the team he's open to more moves which is what he originally stated after the Brassard trade.
In general though I think he's done. - Rinosaur
Yeah guess I meant more in the rental market like trading our 1st. He can still swap players of course. |

Summarizing some issues we've discussed/I've been noticing...
- Hornqvist still seems off to me after this last concussion.
- Pearson is less visible than Riley Sheahan. If he needs to play with Malkin to be effective, is he really an asset?
- Bottom 2 D pairs suck
- Lack of consistent effort / energy
- Getting beat by teams that out skate us. (Would love Haggy back @ 50% retained)
- The new guys (Bjug and Mccann) should be fine but currently playing lineup soup so hard to get a gauge.
- Jake and Phil are the only true scoring threats at wing. All the other wingers are passengers
Add all this up and I think GMJRs options are to:
- get a scoring winger
- add an energy forward who score (maybe Ferland could be that guy...is there anyone available in a Miles Wood mold?)
- add 2nd pairing LHD
- consider Pearson a tradeable asset
- move JJ at all costs

True (re Brass), and man reading that article about him made me dislike him even more...I just never wanted that trade to go through from the get-go. As much as he was a pain to play against, I don't think he ever wanted to be here and certainly never appeared to gel with anyone. - iworkatinitech
He didn't come across well with a couple of those comments. I'm not surprised because he basically said the same thing 5 minutes after last season ended.

I think we're fine at wing.
JJ is stuck to us like the smell of raw sewage. At the very least they should be not compound this mistake by playing him over better players and I consider Ruhwedel a better player....especially at RD. The lack of RH D has been staggering. Schultz should really help in that regard.
I'd definitely look at adding another D, but who knows what's available and at what cost.
