People are worried about what this will do to Marner...Leafs already have a plan and general budget for the team they want to try and win a cup with for the next 5 years...its the other teams that are screwed. How much will this deal impact Tampa Bay and Point? What's Winnipeg going to do about Laine? Toronto is fine. Especially when Marleau is off the book and Nylander is traded

Yep. Now all the teams have to pony up on new contracts. And everyone was chuckling cause the Leafs were up against the cap. Cap will continue to rise in the up coming years. Next year will be the toughest. But the Leafs will survive. And this will give us a really good look at Matthews for the next five years. And if the picture at the end of 5 tells us we should move on , then we will. I really like this deal.

there's obviously a special provision at play here... its the Leafs... so the Coyotes will be allowed to make a 15M$ offer sheet, regardless of the Leafs having signed Matthews. Matthews has to accept it because of "reasons". Leafs have to pay his salary and take the CAP hit.

i) Leafs will have a tight CAP situation 2019-2020 (is this news to ANYONE)
ii) there will be no offer sheets - because no team can afford to spend 4 1st round picks that way - but of course there will be MULTIPLE offers in excess of 15M$ for players that are overpriced, under-performing and injury prone - MAKES PERFECT SENSE.
iii) there will be endless spew from the media until Marner signs something, which of course will be overpriced and more than the Leafs can afford - somehow it will fit within the CAP

I'm not even a hater of the Leafs. I love watching them play and I firmly believe they will win a cup before that five years is up. In fact, I believe they will win this year or next.

Matthews is taking near the league max for five years. Explain to me how that's going to help next year when you need to either extend Marner, re-sign or replace Gardiner and re-sign Kap?
