That's Kypreos' script for Hockeycentral.

Hockey Central was hilarious today, They barely discussed the Matthews contract or last night's game. It was again all about salaries and offersheets. And yes, NOW Kapanen is guaranteed to get an offersheet.

They want you to forget they've told you Matthews is leaving by offersheet since last summer.

- RogerRoeper

It's an onslaught of Leafs propoganda. Sportsnet is taking a page out of Ek's book. Sensationalism sells.

Oh, and apparently Kypreos believes Brayden Point will sign for millions less because he can't go near Kucherov's contract. Does Point's agent think that makes sense?

Eh, Leafs have an advantage now themselves if they wanted to use it with signing bonuses.

Kypreos was trying to say there's an unwritten rule he can't go anywhere near Kucherov's 9.5 million.

This is only the first step. The Leafs signed Matthews just so they could trade him to Arizona. Then they will sign him to an offer sheet. This way he gets paid 2 salaries but only one counts against the Cap. The second salary covers off the high taxes he'll pay in Toronto. I can't make sense of it really. I'm baffled.

Nothing beats Arizona Coyotee fantasies.

Coyotees are so poor their majority owner is Joe Murphy.

So Marner only gets judged by Matthews salary? The Leafs might have an issue with that.
- RogerRoeper

Welcome to cap hell!

I predict Marner will get 10 million, but I believe he should be making more than Tavares Salary, but less / = to Matthews Salary.

As for offer sheets. I never thought Marner/Matthews would get offer sheets. Who would give up 4 1sts for one of these guys? Not going to happen.

Now, I would love for the Hawks to offer sheet to Kap for 4 million AAV. It only gives up a 2nd round pick and I think that's pretty reasonable.

Isn't "Cap Hell" what Edmonton is in, not Toronto?

No, both franchises are in Cap hell.

Toronto is in a much better position than EDM, but will definitely have cap issues in the future.

The problem with your second statement is this: Teams know that Toronto is against the cap. This lowers the value of their players. Toronto needs to move players to sign players. Teams know this and will take advantage of the situation...

This is what happened to the Blackhawks back in 2010 and 2015. This is what it's like to be in cap hell.

.It's actually a fake contract. Matthews at the end of the season will rip-it-up, turn heel, and sign an 8 year max contract with Arizona. He's going to give Dubas a stunner as well.

Dont see the problem with being in cap hell when you have:

2 Stud Centers
One of the most dynamic wingers in the leauge in Marner
Great deal on a solid defenseman in Rielly
Great deal on a 2 way center in Kadri
Muzzin who seems to be great so far and have him for 2 years.
And one sexy biatch in Melander

Cap goes up next year, will probably go up the year after that...and just maybe again after that.....

Trades can happen at any time. Not that they would (and havent seen the details of the contract if its possible) but Mathews COULD be moved for some freaky reason and dont tell me teams wouldnt take him at 11,634,000 if it came down to it.

Leafs realize their window is now. Are they going to win? Ask Uggie. But I stick with my anything can happen in the playoffs mantra. They can compete.

The problem with cap hell is being able to sign the rest of your team.

Nylander is most likely going to be moved. I doubt the Leafs will part ways with Tavares, Matthews, or Marner. I think the return for Nylander is going to be much lower than what Leaf fans believe he's worth (due to his decreased production + pressure from the cap).

Good deal getting him signed. Nice window with Tavares for the next six years. Now we can stop with half of the ridiculous offer sheet posts.

Will keeping Kapanen be an issue going forward?

There won't be an NHL team in Arizona in 5 years.

Your butt-hurt must really hurt.

- Atomic Wedgie

please explain my butt hurt and what it would be pertaining to? if the leafs don't win a cup over the remainder of his 6 seasons you can kiss him goodbye to whatever american team he grew up a fan of. even if they do win a cup i think it's pretty much a guarantee he will leave the leafs. 95% of everything i forecast always comes true especially when pertaining to hockey, so let's just leave it at that.

Can i buy a season ticket under the stipulation that Ek uses the $19.99 to get a proper haircut?

I didn't know Eklund also sang for Def Leppard

Is Rantanen going to get 14 million then?

Marner is a winger. He will sign for less.

- RogerRoeper

Kane is a winger. He didn't sign for less. So it won't be automatic
