It will be interesting to see who gets kept for the forward ranks, unless the Leafs want to make some deep sacrifices on defence.
Marner gets 8.5+ |

well I guess since I was expecting 12...but its not like its uber cheap !
I can see Nylander on the way out, perhaps in June... - Xizord
Why would he get cheap? He’s one of the top players in the league and dominant in almost every metric. He’s also only in his third year. He earned his money. This isn’t 2011 anymore. |

I'd say he took a bit of a discount. I figured he would get $12.5 and Marner would be around $11-$11.5
Kind of shocked on the term. I understand why Matthews would want that wit the cap going up but you'd think the leafs would have pushed for 8 years.
Gonna be interesting to see what Marner gets. I still think he gets around $11 |

10M will be considered cheap once the cap goes up even more bubs. Plus we arent cap strapped to the teets like you are. Like I said itll be fun to watch it all come crashing down on you, the rest of your guppies and the TSN blowhards like that powder puff eating Jeff ONeill better known as The Pillsbury O boy. You just better hope you win a cup so you can salvage your dignity

a Cup ? female dog please, let them win a round first ! |

If he can help get us a cup in the next 5 years, he can go play for the Habs after for all I care! I'll be happy. For years I didn't think we'd ever be good again! Were getting closer to being a really great team, still not quite there but itching closer! If we can land a cup between now and 2024, I'll be happy! |

Nylander and something for Parayako - Glak18
Straight up deal is fair.
Nylander heating up too...6pts in last 5 games.
If he didn't miss anytime this year, would have probably been Parayko + for Nylander.

Good deal for Toronto.
Tavares has a lot of miles on him and probably will be in decline 6 years from now anyways. They have 5 more seasons after this one to try and win a Cup with 2 elite centres.
If they win a cup or 2, is anyone in Toronto going to be concerned about Matthews bolting at age 26? I doubt it. |

Considering everyone thought he was signing an offer sheet with the Yotes in about 5 months, I can't imagine the fans being too concerned. |

How many NHL not named Tavares stars bolt their teams for UFA in the prime of their career? Chances of Matthews leaving at 26 are minuscule.

He's an idiot if he takes anything less than $10M
Mark Stone should be about $9M-$9.5M (reportedly he was offered $9M x 8 years)
Matt Duchene should be about $8.5M -$9M (reportedly he was offered $8M x 8 years)
Marner is looking like he's going to be better than both and with the cap going up, He'd be crazy not too get over $10M |
