I don’t know if anyone mentioned it but yesterday when Rutherford was on with the super genius he pretty much said he’s not trading the 1st round pick this year.

Odd he is really hung on hanging onto this pick on a weak draft.

But it's a gypsy trick double bluff.

What makes it a weak draft?

Could have sworn I read it was a weak draft this year.

I have no idea what makes a draft strong or weak. I will typically be aware of the first 3 to 5 picks and then nada.

I think its a silly thing every year. Oh its a strong draft. Oh its a weak draft. I think its kind of a lazy assessment.

I've found he's been a pretty straight shooter in his time with the Pens.

I think they get him 1 year into his UFA years with that contract

I heard that interview. He sounded like an drunk saying he's never going to drink again.

I'll believe he'll keep the 1st about an hour after the TDL ends.

Yeah can't forget about that time when the Goc trade didn't officially go through until two hours after the deadline. Need that cushion before you can be sure.

I think that's a really smart deal for both parties. Matthews shaves a couple mil from his contract in the short term but gets to re-up while still in his prime after the salary cap goes up further which increases his total career earning potential. Meanwhile, the Leafs get to save cap space while they have to juggle a star filled roster.

JR has been doing a bunch of interviews lately. Just paraphrasing one of his quotes... "I tell myself every night before I go to bed to not trade that pick".

Yeah I think its more so smart for Matthews. If I were the Leafs Id rather pay the extra 900k a year and have him an extra 3 years. Matthews however, if not liking it in TO or where the team is headed, or what it has done, can go elsewhere if he wants all while upping the amount he makes annually.

Yeah, it is for 2019 53.53%, up from 46.65% in 2018. Most provinces once you're making more than about 200 to 220k youre going to pay about 50% tax. Alberta (Flames/Oilers) has the best rates (in Canada) and has a rate after you make around 317k at 48%

I guess Matthews can come fill in for Geno when his contract is up.

Malkin can be a pretty effective LW for Matthews at 6 mil a year.
