I can't think of one example where a goalie on a really bad team was intrumental in the team winning 12 playoff games. Do you have one?
- paulr

I wouldn't necessarily call the 2014 Rangers a really bad team, but I think the King got them to the finals.

Maybe not really bad team but team not as skilled as another..

Mike Smith won at least 9 in 2012? Luongo in 96?

That's the nature of rumors.

Well, there goes a chunk of TC's blog and his title.

Because "news" is now twitter feeds, blogs, personal web pages. The days of investigative journalism were great when we had them. Although I am much less concerned about the accuracy of hockey rumors than stuff that can actually kill you, though the problems are native in those areas as well.

Matthew Barzal - 16th overall
Mikko Rantanen - 10th overall
David Pastrnak - 25th overall
Nikita Kucherov - 58th overall
Johnny Gaudreau - 104th overall
Braydon Point - 79th overall
Sebastian Aho - 35th overall

These are some of the best players in the NHL which shows that it’s talent evaluation as much as draft position in finding Elite game changers in the draft. I’d much rather see the team win and improve with guys developing than the poopshow we watched from Q’s firing until January.

Hawks will end up drafting 3-10 bc water always finds it’s level and this team can only rely on 3 guys scoring for so long.

It’s been fun watching this team, and hopefully Stan can dump the waste of space Anisimov before the deadline.

- EnzoD

But the bottom line is you increase your chances at finding the game changing talent the higher you draft. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible to land someone 50th or 70th overall, but chances are you’re gonna find a player of that caliber at a higher rate if you’re picking top 3. Or especially if you can land #1.

It used to be ready aim fire, now its ready fire aim. Aim = fact check. And its true on all news sources.

Ken Dryden says hello.
- Elbows15

Sure with Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, Jaques Lamaire, Yvan Cournoyer, Frank Mahovolich, Guy Lapointe, Steve Schutt ... He didn't exactly do it on his own.

The Canadiens '93 cup win was equal parts solid goaltending, good players and luck but that's the closest I have seen a goalie being dominant for a cup run.

I'd argue no weak team, which the Hawks currently are, has ever won the cup solely on the exploits of the goalie.

Because they are paid to. Do you think if I am a huge corporate advertiser on your "news program" you are going to rush out to report I'm dumping uranium in the local rivers? Follow the money. The News Media has become a PR arm of corporate America. The silly political carnival barkers (on either side) are just there to distract us and keep us at each other's throat so the thieves can get away with whatever entrenches their wealth and power.

Scott Power just tweeted that he asked Seabrook about being asked to waive his NMC and Seabrook said he wasn't asked. What gives? There is often the feeling there is some underlying subterfuge with the Hawks front office even when there is no direct proof.
- EbonyRaptor

Could be semantics too. Maybe the front office talked to Seabs, Keith, AA, Ward, Kunitz, and Kruger (and their agents) in general terms about the possibility or what if scenarios, but never directly asked the question because they did not have a deal in place.

Or the FO could have just asked their agents and not the players directly. So the player could truthfully say he was not asked.

Or it could be total media BS, fake news.

So maybe (speculating with absolutely no source or proof) Stan goes to each and says "Would you like us to look for a trade for you guys to a contending team" - which can be interpreted by the pundits as asking for a waiver of the NMCs - but by the players as not really asking for a waiver.

Regarding the Kane charts, is there a difference when Kane plays with Toews versus when he's with Strome and Debrincat?

Regarding Teuvo, I'm not sure he really had a chance to reach his ceiling here. He was someone who really needed Finns here in order to thrive. Part of his uptick during the 2015 playoffs was due to Timonen being here. In Carolina, he has Finnish teammates, so it's not a problem there. It wasn't worth the price to keep him here versus on a Finnish friendly team.

He was 21 the summer he was traded.

Perhaps - like most 21 year olds - he needed to mature, physically, mentally and emotionally - before reaching something approaching his potential.

I don't know whether or not Stan could have done a Bickell deal without sweetening it with Teravainen, but I thought at the time (and posted here several times) that he would come into his own with some age and experience - but that the Hawks (being a Cup-contending team) perhaps couldn't afford to wait for him.

He seems to have done that.

I would trade anyone for the right price. Yes, I love Duncan Keith but you have to disassociate yourself from this as GM and do whatever it takes to build this team now and more importantly in the future.
