Yeah leafs should just overpay everyone right off the bat so we never have to wait for a contract to be signed. How does dubas not know about this strategy. Pure genius.

Just please stop it about these offer sheets about the leafs lol. salary cap problems please. leafs have so much money they front end load contracts with bonus money so they can pay a little less while allowing a player to receive a lot of money up front so the player can make money on that money immediately instead of waiting for it. although nylander was over paid he is so trade able come July 1 because he gets most of his money then. in real money he is only owed league minimum. so a team that can absorb the cap hit yet pay a pittance in actual money. Leafs Gm isn' t the GM cause hes stupid. watch and learn.

They can pitch the weather and no state sales income tax. Coupled with Trocheck, Ekblad, huberdeau and barkov and thats a pretty decent club. Plus a decent russian population. Sounds like a place the bread man and Bob take seriously.

If it's a TDL, then probably one of those players is gone - either Trochek or Huberdeau. It's been said that Florida wants to get them in early, before July1, to give them a step up in convincing them Miami is the place to be.
BTW - Panarin owns a condo in Miami.

The other teams were more than happy to let the Nylander situation work itself out as marner is the fish GM’s want. By letting Nylander take up $7 mill of TO’s cap and setting the floor for now for the marner negotiations TO will have to pay $9mill for marner ($8-$10 mill). TO only has $19.5 mill and with Matthews expected at $11-12 that leaves 7.5-8.5 mill for marner and everyone else (plus going over the cap by 10%) so any team can walk in and sign an offer sheet to marner that the leafs cannot match. Only way they do is offloading contracts like Kadri, Marleau (easier said than done) and losing guys like kapanen, Gardner etc.... in the process.

Do you really think the Leafs will wait long enough for Teams to offer sheet the pair?.I doubt it..You do know that the Cap is maybe going up 3-4 mill right? What about Nathan Hortons 5.3 mill?Gardiners gone,so there's that..I mean it wont be easy but everyone here seems to have it all figured out already...They could still trade Nylander...

Just throw this out. Both Bob and Panarin have homes in South Florida. Of course, so do half of the NHL. Just my two cents, think Florida waits until July 1st and free agency for both unless Columbus agrees to take Reimer off their hands,

The Panthers have been the laughing stock of the NHL for decades now. There is no way they are going to attract top UFAs.

To be honest, I can see Panarin signing in Tampa.

Having loads of money and loading bonuses has little to nothing to do with the cap. If they trade the player post bonus payment, the receiving team is then on hook for that same bonus the next year. It makes contracts virtually buyout proof, which is a serious liability for poor teams with internal caps, and it makes them much less desirable trade assets at the draft. Totally agreed Dubas is not stupid, but if you think he isn't in a cap crunch next year, you're dreaming.

How in the world can the Lightning fit into their cap space for next season, the +/- $10M per year long term that Panarin as a UFA will likely be offered? As of today, they already have about $73.1M committed in cap space for 2019/20. And that doesn't even include 7 current roster players whose contracts expire after this season, and may become either RFA's (in Point, Paquette, Erne, & Martel), or UFA's (in Stralman, Coburn, & Girardi).
So without trading any of their other signed roster players who already tie up significant cap space for at least the 2019/20 season, and despite the NHL's cap ceiling expected to increase then to the low $80M's, signing Panarin alone would take up all of that additional available cap space, with the need still to fill 6 more roster spots. For just a starting means, say good bye then in key as FA's to at least Point up front, and Stralman on the back line, who they would both otherwise like to offer new contracts to remain in Tampa. Then expect many more additional moves made in order to sign Panarin.

Im not saying hes not chalanged by the cap. Just saying he has options. Haters make out like the leafs are trapped. And that leafs management has no plan or hasn't given this any thought.

I know a lot are mocking this happening....and maybe it is a pipe dream. However the Panthers (and Lightning) have something a lot of other teams don't have....very advantageous taxes for players. 10 million may actually mean closer to 10 million than say the same offer from the Rangers or Montreal or Kings.
