CJ with 3 points (2g 1a) for the Amerks last night. He's making a strong case to be here.

I saw that CJ had 3 breakaways in the game. 41 points in 41 games. If the call up is Wilson, they have given up on the season, agree. And I will too. Just sell at the deadline-move Beaulieau and whoever else. I wonder if Skinner will even sign at this point.

I feel less confident in Skinner signing as well.

We are still just 3 points out of the WC so there's that. We gotta start winning a few in a row and get back in it. #positivesunday

I can't see how he wouldn't want to go to FA in July, especially if the Sabres offer only 7 or so and he knows he can get more. I want him here but the clock is ticking.

Their track record since he left also speaks volumes.

Should be an interesting month of February, see what Botts can do to clear out Cap and Contracts, hopefully make an acquisition or two. I'm not expecting much in the way coming back, more interested to see some trash taken to the curb.

Just did some back-reading. Jeez, is there an angrier HB comments section than ours ? I don't think so. I'd say it's 20 % angry about the team, and 80% angry with each other.

Sad to say, but I think we need Gerbe back here. He was the one focal point we could all find focus our angst towards.

Interesting note is if you ask the Jets fans, they have serious hate for Laine and would much rather pay Connor on his next deal then Laine. They are REALLY down on him.
- kingcong39

How a Guy who has 72 points in 39 college games fell to 17th pick of the draft I still have no idea. Connor is a player. Yea Laine looks like a one dimensional scorer this season. He’s having a tough couple of months. If he snaps out of the funk though they’ll love him again. I’d buy low on Laine all day long.

I think we'll be selling. Beaulieau, Pommer. Sobotka, Scandella should all be on the auction block. I wouldn't mind acquiring a 2nd rd pick for this year (we don't have one) at the deadline.

I think he was referring to their struggles and thinking that signing Jack Johnson was a good idea. The Brassard trade was a flop but they were able to move him this year so at least Rutherford might have fixed his mistake. Maybe I’m wrong but I think that’s what he was referring to.

One can hope. Only thing I’ve been frustrated about Botts is that he hasn’t moved a d-man yet.

“We had one legitimate offer”

Go try to sell some of your mediocre stuff on letgo and see who responds. Same idea just scaled up. It’ll be tough to move any of those players and expect a decent return.

Just a guess but I think we'll see 2 dmen moved and 1 forward at the deadline.

Why are teams interested in Brassard? He hasn't been good in 3 years.

Check their moves since he's left. Ryan Wilson has written about that a few times.

Do you want to 'buy low' and still have to pay him $8M on his upcoming deal?

We are going to pay Skinner that much what’s the difference. Laine is being pooped all over and he has 25 goals. Even at his pace he’ll pop 35 this year. If I told you, you could sign Laine for 8M a year annually before the month of December you would have laughed in my face.

I agree, but you also make a great point, which is the price for each player going forward and how much they gave up for Skinner compared to how much they'd have to give up for Laine.
