And Kapanen and Johnsson will also get offer sheets.

And maybe Holl and Marincin.

No player from another team will though

Every year Ek says offer sheets are coming and every year they never do. Was Weber the last one? How long ago was that?

Offer sheets are for teams that are failures at drafting. unlike unrestricted free agency offer sheets allow a scum bag team to poach player they don t have the brains or skill to develop. its bad even for the team making the offer. A tsn insider was told by a GM in the west there are a lot of teams afraid of future repercussions made by a team like the Leafs using their financial might to pay back a team that does that to them. obviously not immediately but down the line when in a position to do so. with regards to the leafs i'm not too worried about them but the thought of it annoys me to say the least. Marner said he wants to be a leaf and the team does as well. that they ll work it out way before it ever would come to that. my thoughts are that Marner is the best leaf. yes better than Mathews. and i think he wants what Mathews gets. and hes not wrong. i think they both get 11 million for 6 years.

Let's not forget that the total compensation for an offer sheet is the total value of the contract divided by the number of years on the contract OR five. Whichever makes the AAV value HIGHER, so the compensation is higher to the team that decides not to match. Sign a RFA for 7 years at 4 million and you think the AAV for compensation would be for a 4 million player but it would be for a 5.6 million player. Which makes it even more unlikely for teams to sign these guys.

Kapanen will get an offer sheet... can the Leafs afford 4 million for Kapanen? Compensation would be a 2nd round pick... or they convince him to sign prior or they deal him at the draft

kap will get that your right but it will be the leafs long before july 1 st. for me anyone offer sheets one of my player. i match and trade him to that teams biggest rival.

This whole offer sheet nonsense is much ado about nothing. Sure the Leafs have some good young RFAs coming up. But so does most other teams. Point, Rantenan, Tkachuk, Aho, Laine, Meier, Boeser, Connor, Karlsson, Vrana, Werenski, McAvoy, Trouba, and Provorov are quite a talented group.

Idiots in Buffalo always talked about offer sheeting Nylander and now marner. He’s gonna want 10-11m minimum to move from TO. Are they going to pay 4 #1s FOR Marner? What would Cap’n Jack think about that? Don’t forget, Dahlin is two years away from being an RFA.

There’re is only so much money to go around. Offer sheets are an inflationary move. Teams would be better served drafting and developing their own talent.

I dont think you can trade a player for 12 months after matching an offer sheet, they could match it and move someone else but Toronto won't be able to afford 4 million for Kapanen with all the contracts already in place and the Mathews and Marner ones coming

He said GM, didn't elaborate on what kind of GM. Could be a GM of a local high school volleyball team!

Yes but you are assuming what Marner wants. Not all players like being in big market cities. Fans are fickle and in these big market cities you can go from Hero to villain over night. You also have to look at living costs. Toronto is one of if not the most expensive city to live in. A lot of players go to Florida because it is cheap and as it gets mentioned frequently, taxes are ridiculously low. It really all comes down to what is most important to Marner. Hell maybe he would want to leave just to not be under Matthews Shadow. He could be a guy that wants to go somewhere to be the "main" guy. Personally I would like to challenge myself and lead a bad team to a championship but at the same time I would likely want to win with a good team first just to have a championship win under my belt.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

You really think Marner is all that worried about the cost of living in Toronto? You know all NHL players are paid at least $650,000, right? There's not a city in the world that you can't live excessively making 650k a year, and he's probably going to be making slightly more than that.

I've been told Matthews is going to Phoenix and Marner to the Islanders

The Blues never draft well and the picks they get never crack the lineup until the overpaid players leave—-see the crappy contracts as evidence. Army is going to sheet the Tkachuk boys back home to STL when the time comes. The next eight 1st rounders will be better spent this way versus developing players in the AHL maybe getting 3/4 line minutes on call-ups.
- minivinnie3

Wrong. At least lately. Schwartz, Tarasenko, Petro, All taken in the 1st round. Even Erik Johnson is still a decent player in the league. But HELL YES bring the Tkachuk boys home. Trade for Brady and offer sheet Matthew

Hi, this was just YESTERDAY...

Marner on an offer sheet: “... don't imagine that scenario playing out and it's the reason why my agent and Kyle are trying to reach a deal much sooner.”

A Marner offer sheet makes 0 sense.

“Yes I will marry you and here is how much we will spend for the wedding…pending my dad doesn’t kill me first”

Quality analogy. If Marner signs an offer sheet, the Leafs should have him killed.

this is the stupidest topic that anyone can cover....Oh man a player is going to get offer sheeted.

Teams can want to oversheet all the want but the player has to agree to sign it.

Yes but Ek needs clicks to keep the lights on. Your facts don't belong here. Marner is signing an offer sheet with the Red Wings just because. We'll take Buston too. Thanks now.

Yeah but you must consider the Hockey Buzz season ticket holder tax. Marner is tired of not seeing his name on the Rumour chart.

I agree those are good picks but Schwartz/Tarasenko were the same year and most of our picks are aging in the AHL or somewhere else. I bet the Tkachuk boys come back. I just looked at their picks and most have made little impact. Hopefully they are sharp in the second half.
