I don't think Stan is on his way out (unfortunately for some).
I've heard he's got a longer leash than some might think. He and the management team have a plan to reboot this team and Stan is in charge of executing it... for now. - Justin Lowe
I'm afraid you're likely right about Stan being here for another year. I think the team generally believes the reboot plan, and it could work if a lot of things go right between June and October. But there's still a lot of big ifs that could go wrong.
-What if we don't land any big free agents?
-What if Crawford never plays again?
-What if none of our D prospects are ready next season (Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudin)?
I think Mark Kelley runs the draft, as evidenced by what little video footage there is. Stan is the one running trades and free agent signings, two things that we have a very variant history on. I would honestly prefer a fresh set of eyes who can tune out McDonagh and make smart moves that aren't beholden to the marketing machine.

Do you think that other teams know that Artemi won't resign with Columbus, so the price will go down? Still a first (later in the round) and a prospect because he's still a rental? I think teams might stay away because they might not be able to resign him and they know it. - I Am The Breadman
Definitely lowers the price, but ultimately he will be a rental for pretty much any team, right?? It sure seems like Artemi wants to test the UFA market and be adequately compensated for his world class hockey skills, as he is 100% entitled to do. BUT, It will be interesting to see if Jarmo plays the next 3 weeks almost as a open communication/ Panarin sweepstakes. If I was Jarmo I'd let teams talk to the agent and try to do a sign & trade. Panarin/His agent can gauge the entire market of interested teams and what they are willing to pay him. If there is a contract signed/committment, then the cost to acquire him goes up significantly.
CBJ have been playing like crap, 5 straight losses, and it's easy to argue that this Panarin drama has a huge negative impact on team morale. How would you feel as a CBJ teammate knowing Panarin doesn't want to be there? They need to move him, and sooner the better. |

Duclair 24 total seconds of ice time in their last game after failing to clear the puck on his 1st shift that led to Winnipeg's 1st goal of the game
Man would it be cool if Cozens or Dach could be a Dubois type pick at 3-5 overall....LOVE how Dubois in CBJ plays...Toews-esque
EDIT: Hawks currenlty sit at 3rd in the Draft Lottery/Mock Draft and Wiz has Podkolzin jumping up to 3rd overall - EnzoD
Really liked what little I saw from Podkolzin at the WJC. He was pretty electric with the puck. I just read from Corey Pronman (The Athletic prospect guru) that Podkolzin likely isn't coming over for two years though, which would make me incredibly sad. Maybe he'd come if Panarin was here? I should put the glue stick down.

The worst picks he made were Aliu and Beach. No defending him there. - 6628
Jack Skille and uncertain if he drafted a couple of Russians. One a center. But Babchuk must have been on Neil Smith-? |

I hear you on team morale. I guess Big Bob isn't really helping either. I know Artemi started off the season cold ... has his numbers improved any? |

I watched a highlight packaged on Cozens and he plays a VERY gritty aggressive game in a big frame, with skill. Podkolzin has that smooth yet strong on the puck game. I don't think they can go wrong with any of those top 5 guys. You can always move a Center to wing, so if they finish where I expect (3-5), I'd be very happy with Cozens or Dach too.
Does Podkolzin have a KHL contract commitment??? Hawks will likely still have StanBo's lovechild Anisimov so if he's good enough to make the team next year, why not come over?? |

I think they said during the game last night that he has 11 goals and 20 points in his last 16 games. I'm not sure if that was before or after his 1 goal, 1 assist night. |

So a little bit, I guess. Haha!
I'm betting 8 figures in the UFA market.
Thanks tvetter for the info also. |

But the team had a HOF coach, who couldn't get Rundblad, Wiese, and Fleishma(sp) to perform. Q has to take some of the blame, doesn't he? - powerenforcer
Yes he does. Stubborn and my way or I won play you. Or not play much. Reportedly Weise was inadequate in some area. Funny thing only one two years previous he had a huge playoff performance for Montreal. I sense a Tallon Bowman incongruity. |

Pronman: I don't think he's coming over for at least 2 years so I do think it will come into play.
This is answering a question about whether the 'Russian factor' plays into a team drafting Podkolzin.

Don't lay Runblad on Q. One of the sled hockey guys would have been more effective than Runblad. Hi is the worst D man I ever saw here. |

Have to give you those picks too. Barker was touted coming in, especially for his shot from the point, but I never saw it. Boozed his way out of town. And Skille could have the least hockey IQ ever here. - 6628
this is not to say Bowman hasn't had his share of mistakes along the way but the Tallon love fest is unbearable.
Yes. Tallon did play a huge part in putting together that first Cup team. He wasn't alone and people seem to forget Bowman has been a part of the organization since 2001.
Like always. It take a whole poop load of people to put together teams that win a Cup. |

The Calgary comeback game.
There was a guy from Ireland who was at his first hockey game was sitting behind me in 300 level. He didnt really know anything about hockey and was wearing a soccer jersey and said how he loved that game. The Hawks were down 5 goals and ended up winning the game. After the Hawks scored a goal to tie the game at 5, he screamed soccer is for pu$$ies. He was having the time of his life, as were the rest of the Hawks fans on that epic comeback.
My friend brought his kid to his first game and sat behind the Flames bench and his kid got a couple of sticks from the Calgary players after the game. So kudos to them for not being sour. Or perhaps just didn't want to use their sticks anymore. - stan-ley-cups
I wasn't there live, but that is one of my favorite games I've ever watched. There was a glimmer of hope when it was 1-5 at the end of the 1st.......I remember telling myself, you know what, I think they are going to come back, I'm not turning this off. Man, what a rush that game was.

Nice leak probably from the FO regarding DK. So don't be mad at FO when they trade DK because DK wanted the trade. I wont be shock if they trade DK now. FO doesn't want the heat. BS |

That year I actually liked the adjustment Q made in the series against the Blues - playing Weiss, sitting Fleischmann (I had to look up how to spell it) - he just did it too late. I wondered if he might have been looking past the Blues too much that year and into the next round. Such a good & close series though. 6 of 7 games by one goal. Two of the games went into OT, one of those into double OT. Blackhawks actually outscored the Blues in the series by one goal. |

MIKE Smith loved Russians. He sent Savard to Russia to check out the few he drafted one year. Savvy came back and said they all were horsepoop, and one was drunk and couldn't stand up when he met him. Seems he was right. I don't remember the hawks having a good Russian until Panarin. Maybe Igor Kravchuck (who was more interested in demanding to be referred to as Gary). |

Kravchuk was good. Zhamnov should have been if he gave a poop. Zhamnov was probably one of the most talented players in the league when he played. There were times he was the best player on the ice by far. His problem was he only showed up occasionally.
Still can't believe Kravchuk was traded for Joe (frank)ing Murphy. |
