yeah that's a HORRIBLE move for the great Dale Tallon. Pretty sure it was Petrovic. Marchessault has been a beast since coming over. That obviously lit a fire under his butt.
- Savetheembers33

Marchessault already was performing. All his metrics were top notch and minutes were all he needed. Let alone he scored 30 goals the season before he was left unprotected.

The Hawks are better off with him in Florida too.

The Hawks would be better off with Stan in FLA too.

FWIW, I hear it wasn’t his fault. He’s just the fall guy for his underling not faxing the right protected player list. Wrong place, wrong time. Again. Sad really.

Had Bowman used a pair of 2nd round picks on an actual hockey player maybe they actually do better the NEXT year. Kimo timmonen was a lame brained move, period. There was absolutely no rationale reason to get that guy. Just like the Weise/Flushman trade and of course his continual dalliance with David freaking Rundblad...those poopty ass players alone cost the Hawks what? Three or four 2nd round draft picks and Phil Danault? Brilliant.
- kwolf68

Kimmo was done, true. Stan overpaid, true. The Blackhawks lost that battle (trade) but they won the war (a Cup!) All GMs are going to make mistakes, I'm ok with a mistake that leads to a Cup.

Contrast that with the Danault trade, which didn't lead to a Cup, in part because Stan didn't go out and get the Dman that he needed that year. With that trade Stan lost the battle and the war. Yes, Rundblad was a double-fail - it was a failure to acquire him and a failure to resign him. I don't mind taking fliers on guys but then to overpay on the re-sign is self-inflicted. At least when he re-signed Jurco it was $100K less than the previous deal.

There's a lot to criticize Stan about but for the Timmonen deal I give him a pass because the team won a Cup that year and when you have that opportunity, you need to go for it. He did.

My favorite memory that comes to mind had nothing to do with the actual game - I don't remember who they played or if they won or much of anything about the game. It must have been the early 90's because Mike Peluso was on the team and I looked up what years he played for the Hawks (90-92). I remember Mike Peluso was on the team because he was not playing that particular game - he was "in the press box" only he wasn't actually in the press box - he was sitting in the stands a few rows up from me and people were coming by to get his autograph before the game started.

My fond memory was that game was the first game I took my daughter to. On the drive down to the Stadium, I impressed upon her to always keep her eye on the puck when the play was going on because deflected pucks often flew into the stands and you don't want to get hit with the puck. So we got there really early, took our seats and a few minutes later the Hawks came out for their skate around ... and what did they do? They threw out dozens of pucks on the ice and my daughter tensed up and grabbed my arm and said, "dad, I can't watch all of those pucks at the same time". I guess it was a had to be there moment but a fond memory that she and I share.

But the team had a HOF coach, who couldn't get Rundblad, Wiese, and Fleishma(sp) to perform. Q has to take some of the blame, doesn't he?

Favorite memory of a Blackhawk game. 1968, a 7 year old kid, me, just finished watching the Blackhawks play the Leafs. My Dad and I went across the street for a hot chocolate then he brought me back to Maple Leaf Gardens to Carlton street where a big bus was idling. Beside the bus was a group of kids and adults milling around. We joined them and I asked my Dad what we were there for. He just answered, "you'll see".

A few minutes later the doors of the Gardens open and out walks Doug Mohns and Paul Terbenche. Suddenly all the people are thrusting scraps of paper and pens for autographs. I was able to get Terbenche's. Then Tom Reid's then Denis Dejordy's and Ken Warram's. Stan Makita signed a few then brushed by a group of us and said "sorry guys we have to go".

Then there was a noise and a big rush to the door as Bobby Hull walked out. He put down his bag and started signing autographs for a huge throng of people around him. The other players already on the bus were calling for Hull to get on the bus but he kept signing. He kept signing as he inched toward the bus. He looked around and asked "anyone else". He looked at me stepped towards me ked my name and signed "To my friend Paul, keep your stick on the ice, Bobby Hull 9". He tousled my hair and got on the bus. Hull signed an autograph for every man, wo an or child who wanted one.

Sadly my book of hockey autographs along with my complete set of Opeechee cards for the 1967-68 and 1968-69 seasons got lost. I think my mom tossed them, but I'll always have the memory.

Derrick Brassard has not been good for 3 years....Bjugstad is a band-aid, but when he's healthy he's a very effective middle 6 center and still in his prime at 26 years old. McCann is probably a bottom 6 guy when it's all said and done....

Duclair 24 total seconds of ice time in their last game after failing to clear the puck on his 1st shift that led to Winnipeg's 1st goal of the game

Man would it be cool if Cozens or Dach could be a Dubois type pick at 3-5 overall....LOVE how Dubois in CBJ plays...Toews-esque

EDIT: Hawks currenlty sit at 3rd in the Draft Lottery/Mock Draft and Wiz has Podkolzin jumping up to 3rd overall

If Hughes and Kakko are off the board when the Hawks pick I'm leaning more toward Turcotte over Cozens, Dach and the other guys projected to be top-10.

Thanks for stopping by Michael.

Last time I was in Buffalo to watch the Hawks it was in Dec 2015 and Kane scored with 30 seconds left to tie it up and then won it in the shootout.

Kaner obviously loves coming home to play. Should be fun to be at the game tonight.

was that a Sat afternoon game if i recall? Hawks looked horrible entire game until the very end when they pulled i out?

The Calgary comeback game.

There was a guy from Ireland who was at his first hockey game was sitting behind me in 300 level. He didnt really know anything about hockey and was wearing a soccer jersey and said how he loved that game. The Hawks were down 5 goals and ended up winning the game. After the Hawks scored a goal to tie the game at 5, he screamed soccer is for pu$$ies. He was having the time of his life, as were the rest of the Hawks fans on that epic comeback.

My friend brought his kid to his first game and sat behind the Flames bench and his kid got a couple of sticks from the Calgary players after the game. So kudos to them for not being sour. Or perhaps just didn't want to use their sticks anymore.

Duncan Keith shrugs off talk that the Blackhawks will ask him if he wants to waive his NMC and be traded to a contender. Said he be hasn't thought about it and hasn't been asked about it. One day at a time.

Asked Keith if he's up for a rebuild/retool: "What’s a rebuild or a retool, who knows what that is? New Jersey was good last year and now they’re not good this year. So what happened? I don’t know. ... The league's different now. One year you’re good, the next year you’re not."

If he wants to stay...he stay's...love the comment about rebuild: what's that

Lol, well done.

Enjoyed your stories of Hawk fandom. A word of caution, though, you'll ruin your image with stuff like that. Like wolfie the other day with his feelings about Seabrook - finding out he was a regular human was disturbing. Just messing with you, Wolfie.

I misspoke... Wiz's site is DraftSite.com, not tankathon. Wiz also has Hughes, Kakko, Podkolzin, Cozens, Dach as the top 5.

Turcotte at #9. It's funny bc Turcotte's Dad always (maybe still does) ran skills development camps for high level youth players in Chicagoland. Anybody still in Chicagoland/Chicago Youth Hockey circle know if Turcotte is still coaching/running AAA Camps?

Not sure if you saw my post the other night, but Columbus fans LOUDLY booed Panarin for his introduction AND every time he touched the puck after word got out that he's not going to negotiate and is as good as gone as a UFA. CBJ is built to win now so I expect Panarin to be traded this month. Jarmo can't allow him to walk for nothing AND have the distraction that is coming with his UFA scenario.

Barker and Skille weren't much better. Toews fell into his lap. Kane was a bit of a risk but he was by far the best player in that draft.
- Elbows15

Have to give you those picks too. Barker was touted coming in, especially for his shot from the point, but I never saw it. Boozed his way out of town. And Skille could have the least hockey IQ ever here.

And mostly what he did was rag the puck to the outside and shoot from almost the corner. Half the time he missed the net and cleared the zone for the opposition. I coached a few big fast strong cement heads like that over the years and never could get through to them.

Do you think that other teams know that Artemi won't resign with Columbus, so the price will go down? Still a first (later in the round) and a prospect because he's still a rental? I think teams might stay away because they might not be able to resign him and they know it.

There still are ads for Turcotte skills camps at the local Chicagoland rinks.

Cement head is an excellent term!
