Most of that depth you speak of came when Smith and unbelievably, Pulford were GM.
The depth for the 13 and 15 teams came from Bowman moves. After Tallon (frank)ed up the QO that put the Hawks in cap hell in the 1st place. - Elbows15
Are you trying to help T Cam out with the basement fund? |

he was booted upstairs in the first place because he was throwing money around on bad contracts.
I will say it again. Tallon sucks as a GM. - Elbows15
Have to say, not impressed with his free agent decisions, passed on Seth Jones, the contract he gave Huet was an absolute joke. I have a funny feeling the way he spends money he has no clue how to balance a check book, probably spends every dime he's made. |

Ya... that's probably a better follow-up. I have 5 kids, feel free to ask me any questions. |

Best game memory:
April 2, 1989 - last regular season game of the 1988-89 season - Hawks vs Leafs.
Sitting in first row center second balcony right above the Leaf net. Troy Murray with the OT game winner to put the Hawks in the playoffs with a mere 28 wins on the season. They then would go on to the Western Conference finals.
I think at least three flat MGDs in the wax Bismarck cups were spilled on me when the cheer went up.

Those cups were loud when they were turned upside down and stomped on. The post game shows on the radio always had those echos. |

Have your opinion all you want and most of them I think make sense. But the QO thing was a set up and not on him. He was just the one to fall on the sword. He's better off in Fla. |

TC,
You had 1st time experience with the first book and are experiencing the 2nd book now. Hopefully you'll have to ask someone else about the 3rd edition!

Well if we're going to go with rumors then, he was the one who wanted to sign Havlat instead of Hossa, so there's that |

the 15 team had no depth. Unless of course you're talking about the marvelous acquisition of Kimo Timmonen.

The Hawks are better off with him in Florida too. |

He's also not the one behind Huet. |

The worst picks he made were Aliu and Beach. No defending him there. |

Kimmo was inconsequential, but the addition of Vermette was key IMO. |

The Bowman Bros will contort themselves in all kinds of ways to absolve him of anything which could shine negative onto him. They have blamed most of the recent bungling moves on Q. But then turn right around and pontificate about all his great moves previous to that. So Q was "not to blame" for those few good moves Bowman made, but all these recent bad ones someone Q takes the blame. See how it works? Bowman never makes a mistake, it's always someone else's fault. |

I don't know, but what i do know he's struggling to build a playoff team in Florida |

Kimmo didn't do anything on the ice but I think his acquisition sent the right message to the players and the fans - the entire organization was doing what it could to win that year. Sure, they might have won it without that deal but it's hard to fault it because they did win. |

True and that was a needed and good move. I also like the Oduya move, that may have been his best move. But for every Oduya move there is poop like Rundblad, timo, Weise, etc. This isn't about Saad trade, which turns out was probably a bad deal, at least I "got it" what Bowman was thinking, he lost, not too bad, but he lost. However, the made NO SENSE at all moves he has to own. |

I like both. I often get to your blogs after at least 5 pages of comments have been made already. It's nice to get your takes all in one place before I begin reading through the rest. |

Had Bowman used a pair of 2nd round picks on an actual hockey player maybe they actually do better the NEXT year. Kimo timmonen was a lame brained move, period. There was absolutely no rationale reason to get that guy. Just like the Weise/Flushman trade and of course his continual dalliance with David freaking Rundblad...those poopty ass players alone cost the Hawks what? Three or four 2nd round draft picks and Phil Danault? Brilliant. |
