Interesting that Zawaski guessed a prospect and a 2nd in return for Keith. I think that's a more realistic return than a 1st round pick. That 4 more years at $5.5M is the problem. If he had one year remaining I would think he would return a 1st and more, but not as Keith's cap/term stand now. - EbonyRaptor
Yeah, I thought that was weird wording when he said they'd be happy to take a decent prospect and/or a 2nd. I think even with the term left on his contract, they should at least hold out for a 1st AND a top prospect. Anything less, just hold on to him. I'd assume he'd only waive for a contender, a 2nd becomes the 50th to 60th pick. His cap hit isn't killing us, so hold on to him unless the offer overwhelms.
Last point: What happens if they approach him, and he says he wants out, but they, can't get a decent return? Does Keith get upset if he basically asks for a trade, and we hold on to him? |

I think he has already answered it from his responses today. |

His term is what lessens his value. If he was UFA after this year they could probably get more for him. He isn't worth a first anymore |

I've been to a few (but none since maybe 1991 or 92) -it is tough to choose one, even so...
I guess the one is sitting above the organ loft -they were playing St Louis and it was 91 I think) -and Keenan was there chomping on his crushed ice watching the pre-game warm up.
I guess honourable mention was the 1987-88 Red-White scrimmage that they used to run pre-season, and that was mainly because I was standing behind Billy Reay, getting some popcorn ... and then going back to my seat where my dad was waiting - there's Dale Tallon leaning on the entrance to that section ... I guess there were some other guys hanging around too - I sort of remember the name Reg Flemming -but that was before my time by a little bit...
Tallon - you know, all things aside, he was a great colour commentator -he doesn't know it- but he taught me the art of self-deprecation (which seems to helped me seamlessly assimilate into Australian culture). |

I'm not saying he is, but he's our best dman, so I just think that we should only trade him if the offer overwhelms. |

No worries. A lot of people seem to think that's what the asking price should be, I just think we should hold on to him unless we get that. |

Kinda depends on the team while his cap hit is relatively high, his salary could be appealing.
Keith Cap hit $5,538,462
Keith salary:
2019/20 $3,500,000
2020/21 $2,650,000
2021/22 $2,100,000
2022/23 $1,500,000 |

What team, with a chance of contending, is today’s Duncan Keith away from contending, AND has cap space for his hit for the next four years, AND fair value in return?
What teams have cap space for him the next four years, where the actual spend is a benefit to their budget, who can offer fair value in return, that Keith would waive to go to?

TC great blog as always!
Wow, best memory hard to say after a few hundred games. But in this era of course the best era.
Dustin Byfuglien in beast mode natural hat trick 2007 and we were on the glass as it was so easy to be back then.
Sunday bloody Sunday gane vrs Nuncks around 2009? Details later. Blood all over ice. Kept playing that song over and over. Like 10 fights alot of stopage.
Playoff hat tricks, Byfuglien vrs Nucks, Kaner, etc.
Raising the holy grail on home ice.
More to follow.... Sorry on phone running to Disney on ice at the UC. Maybe update later.

What is fair value for Keith? - Return of the Roar
He could provide a lot to Buffalo as a mentor to young studs Dahlin and Ristilainen.

They have $7.2MM in cap space.
They are a contender.
What do the Hawks get in fair value back? |

Doubt he would go there.
Best 2 places for him to go to help a contender is 1) Winnipeg followed by 2) Vegas.
The Jets won't re-sign Myers and Trouba probably is gone too after this season. Chevy and Bowman are close and the Jets are all in to win this season. |

Would be tough to see Keith and Jets beat up on the Hawks development squad 5 times a year.

I really want to give this guy a legit period of time to play, like his intangibles.
Though Hawks badly outshot this period, so not all is well. |

The only teams that lower salary would appeal to are salary cap basement teams and there aren't many of them and they aren't contenders if they are and Keith wouldn't wave to go to one. |

Looked clean to me. Refs arm never went up, don't know why they called interference on Risto. |
