Nor would I expect them to. They're doing fine

I'd love to see Panarin on this team but that will never happen.

I'm thinking it's going to take another big offseason for this team to take the next step.

I'm not sure Botts will be able to make a big splash at trade deadline. Usually seems like the price is too high this time of year.

Reports are that he wants to play for a "bright lights/big city" team (NY, LA?) or a "destination team", like Tampa.

Sounds good to me. I'd like to see a shake up. By addition or subtraction. Might wake up the Locker room.

If we're gonna pack it in, I'm ok with that. But trade Beaulieu and Scandella, and play Pilut. Trade Girgs and waive Elie and play Smith and O'Regan.

Let's get on with it. Either get better, or get younger, but don't keep doing this, because this sucks

If you had to choose love or happiness, which do you go with?

Exactly. Do something. Add someone to help or start dumping bad contracts and bring up some young guys.

Eichel needs that number 2 to bounce ideas off of

Girgs and O'Regan are the same age. Elie and Pilut are the same age, and both younger than Smith. Not sure how each factor into their long term plans, but a lot of the current 'prospects' are not part of a youth movement. Many of them are at their make or break point. Will be interesting to see who they use their post-deadline call ups on.

That’s where free agency comes in for the short term. Drafting well so that in 2-3 years we have more studs coming through the pipeline to supplant those short term fixes to ensure sustained success.
- Pegullaville

At some point the pegulas will be " ready" to win.

I thought it was this season. Last year they were clearly all in for dahlin or tkachuk

I think we move players / picks at the draft.

Next years 2 (1st) rounders aren't gonna be ready for 4 or 5 years. I think patience is wearing thin on losing.

I'd be surprised if we draft 2 of the 4 (1st's)

Eichel is younger than all of them. What matters is that we have more than a few players who are older than Eichel with no NHL experience. If we're not going to trade for players that will help us this year, then trade the players who aren't in the future. Let's see more Pilut, O'Regan, Smith, Nylander and Olofsson, and less Sobotka, Pominville, Girgensons, Elie, Scandella and Beaulieu.

Neither is Elie. O'Regan is unlikely to be worse, and he might be better

It all depends on whether they're trying to get better for this year

McBeane clearly sold the Pegulas on being bad this year. Maybe Botterill told them that the Sabres would be mediocre, but better than last year.

Phil's seat is lukewarm. Botterill's is room temperature, regardless of the finish

- jcragcrumple

Good post

Although I think botts' seat is cold. He's been a rockstar.

Housley could be a pegula hire? Might be Lindy time

I think we are guaranteed to use 3/4 firsts. Only one in doubt is the Sharks pick and that still has many variables and I think odds are we keep it unless we can obtain a player that can be with us for a long time.
