Could be an absolute homerun if bjugstad is motivated/consistent - neem55
Pitt does get two players that are younger then the two they gave up and cost control for a couple of years.
Thought maybe the picks were too much but really a 2nd and 2-4ths isn't a lot considering they did get two better players. (not by much though) |

Seems like he is what he is now, a streaky player. If Pitt gets the good version for the playoffs then they'll be happy with this deal because he's definitely a really solid player when he's on his game. Apparently he's known for coasting/floating a bit too much at times.
People assume he's physical because of his size but he only averages a little over 1 hit per game over the last few years. |

I agree 50 is big for FA, good point. Don’t see a lot of these roster moves though. - neem55
I doubt it too....just spitballing at what could happen. I just think that this years offseason will be one for the ages..... |

Not a fan of giving up picks for marginal upgrades, I'd rather give up more for more of a difference maker.
Easier saids than done though, the Pens don't really have many assets to land a big fish in a trade. Unless some team is really high on Sprong or Maatta |

I think it makes sense for both, clearly Florida is looking ahead a bit and wanted to clear cap. Bjustad is the best guy in the trade but if they are going all in for next year they can still rent brassard or trade for a big fish with the extra picks. Riemer will be bought out, lots of speculation around Lou retiring. |

I mean he’s hit 50 in Florida, he could easily do more if he sticks top 6 woth that talent on pitt. |

I've suggested buying low on him in the past when he was rumoured to be on the block. Not like they got taken to the cleaners, just think that it seems Rutherford likely got frustrated by teams asking for too much for better players.
I know they've been linked to a deal for Ferland for awhile now so maybe he got frustrated by the Canes demands and took the best deal he could find right now instead of staying patient. |

Sheahan was drafted 2 picks behind Bjugstad in 2010. A 50 point career difference though. |

That’s not very much of a difference Considering it’s over 6-7 seasons. Huh. The plot thickens. |

Bjugstad 394 87 104 191 .48
Sheahan 414 56 83 139 .33
That's an average of 12 points over 82 games. |

Factor in 5v5 + PP ice time difference and it's less of a difference though.
Plus the Pens are already in cap hell for next season now |

Don't forget they sent a 2nd rounder with Zib. That trade never made any sense. At best, they were trading similar players except Zib was 5 years younger - NorthNuck
I remember it was all this hoopla about righty centers. Now Zib is almost ppg, the player ottawa desperately needs. I for one love it. They should kiss Karlssons ass every time he comes to town for taking that poop team so far. Melnyk should personally offer favors. |

That's exactly why it was a straight up trade because the players are even. |

It's gotta make you question the quality of parity in the league when a team can be one goal from the SCF and then be revealed to be that bad immediately after |
