Quiz
Name a Blackhawk dman whom had a powerful shot around and during the Doug Wilson era.
Clue He is a GM now. Both him and Wilson are GM"s.
If the groundhog can see his shadow next week, does this mean more crappy weather or crappy Blackhawk trades? Maybe both? |

Sanipass started the greatest brawl ever. World junior tournament Canada vs Russia. They had to turn out the lights to stop it, and when they turned them back on there were several Russians still laying on the ice. He once was stretching while slowly skating before practice with his stick behind his head. He tripped and drove his nose into the ice breaking the hell out of it all by himself. That guy was a piece of work. - 6628
Once Seabrook hangs up the skates, retire #7 for him, Chelios, and Sanipass? Don't think Sanipass wore that number long. I think he switched numbers at some point. (To be clear, being sarcastic about Sanipass)
I know there's a mixed bag on how people feel about Chelios but I'm in the camp that if #7 is retired, it should be for him and Seabrook. |

Pit Martin wore 7. Even though Hull's 9 is retired, he also wore 7. Martin was a good player, but sadly will be remembered as the guy acquired in the trade for Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield. |

The Hawks are in a tough spot of their own making. Agree that Keith is worth more to the team than anything that they are likely to receive for him. And moving him means +2 years on being relevant given how many teams are looking for top 4 defensemen who can actually defend.
They have the luxury with a logjam of defensemen (and kind of blew it with Joker) of letting the #1 picks develop without being rushed.
As much as they need scoring, they need defensive reliability more. Bringing in a legitimate top 4 who can defend gives more time for the youngsters to develop and takes some of the pressure off Keith and Seabrook (the latter of whom isn't going anywhere).
If someone offers a high 2nd round choice or better for Gustafsson, I'd take the deal. Otherwise, you keep him for the same reason - he gives you (finally) a power play solution and you pair him with a strong defensive defenseman who can skate. If Gustafsson is on this team long-term, it means the prospects did not pan out.

I wouldn't accept anything less than a 1st for Gusta. The PP is finally good and I believe he's a large reason for that. I also look at what Hartman fetched last year and I think Gusta is far more valuable to this team than Hartman.

You echo much the same things I have been saying. It will be interesting if Beaudin and mitchell are able to hold a spot before others, notably Boqvist.
The scouting reports on those two indicate that gap control, thinking the game well and defensive coverage are very good. Sounds like they may be a quick study capable of making a transition with little to none AHL preparation.
Both dmen are smallish but if you can play then you .....play. I am equally anxious to see a Carlsson and Kyrs make the grade since they are quick
.I mean we could win the puck more when our dmen in each pair have that edge.
I want to stress that Bowman would becremiss to rush their development. Hypothetically Forsling and Jokiharju could also be on the Rockford roster.
Somehow Bowman will work out the where and when for each prospect..
We may need to br patient too as we stream Rockford action |

ETA: If it means he will play meaningful minutes, great, but I'd really love to hear a detailed explanation on this one. |

Ah yes, good point. Hopefully, will give Joki plenty of playing time and allow us to offload some excess, never-going-to-be-what-we-need d-men. |

I was going to say, this isn’t a “we’re trying to win year”. There are going to be some decisions and lineups that will be head scratchers. I’m sure Joki is fully aware of the situation, and they are just showcasing as much as possible. |

Boston paid even more for Kaberle at the 2011 TDL. I know, it was Chiarelli, but I still have to wonder if a PP QB has a bigger price tag at the TDL than we would think. |

I would say Stan hasn't been able to find a trade partner yet for any of his current D and Forsling is now healthy.
It's a crowded space but I would guarantee Joki will be back up once space is cleared as I do think a D or 2 will be moved before Feb 25th. |

Showcasing could be yes and it could be no. You do not know that they are now in an operating mode where the greenest prospects will be given opportunity to show their ware but in order to have a better showing, let them get in meaningful TOI and a boost in confidance by going to Rockford then later recalled. With Jokiharju he has played seemingly everywhere but at a backyard pond this season. Let him get that TOI somewhere......Rockford for a month might be a good opportunity to play and not worry as much as he might if used in spots in the NHL right now.
Also your idea about showcasing anyone at any location could be equally an on going development. It is difficult to know exactly exactly what Bowman' s attention_is more focused upon.

Forsling or Dahlstrom could have been sent down. I don’t see the logic with Jokiharju’s treatment. He went from playing 20+ minutes while performing better than most other Chicago d-men to 14 minutes per game to Rockford. There wasn’t much (if any) drop off in his play. |

IF the Hawks trade Keith, Vancouver makes sense in that Keith is from the area, but the fans HATE him. Maybe that would change if Keith starts throwing elbows for them instead of against them, but for now...
I would say that the return better be good, at least a first, top prospect, useful bottom 6 NHL player. I say that, not because I believe that's necessarily market value for Keith, but because if the offer is less than that, we shouldn't trade him. He is still the best Dman on the team, a top 3 Dman on most teams, and the fact that he's 35 shouldn't scare anyone away because he's a physical freak.
I would also say that I hope the trade is to a team in Vancouver's position in the standings. Best case scenario is we get an unprotected first, and the other team misses the playoffs. Now we have more ping pong balls to land Hughes, Kakko, or in dreamland, both. |

That's because stan is overvalued his defenseman or is asking too much in return. I don't expect much to happen between now and feb 25 just some minor moves that won't help the hawks going forward but we will see |

Vancouver fans totally hate Keith, it’s one of the reasons I got a Keith jersey!
There must be another move coming. Jokiharju going to Rockford leaves Chicago with 6 d-men plus one on IR (Forsling). |

Stan feels he can get a better offer on February 26th so he will likely wait. |
