Per Al Cimaglia:

I heard Duncan Keith's name linked with the Canucks, who fit that category.

That has plausibility. Vancouver is on the cusp of moving into a Wild Card position as they have the same points as the two Wild Card teams (DAL & COL) but have played one more game. They had their soon to be Calder winning rookie (Pettersson) out for 11 games and their other hot young player Boeser missed 13 games. They are both back in the lineup so they have a legit shot at making the playoffs and having Keith would help them do that. Don't know the trade pieces or how it works out from a Cap perspective - but it's not a bad idea for Vancouver.

So, before next season, you’d like to trade off everyone except 8 players (2 G, 2 C, 2 W, 2 D), and you’d like picks and prospects back? So the remainder of the roster will be filled with rookies and career AHLers?

That team would be worse than the Kansas City Scouts & California Golden Seals.and yes, I saw both those teams in person.

Wow. KC Scouts!!!Almost forgot about them. What were they around for ...2-3 years???. I musta been a early teenager.....maybe 12 or 13 or 14. Only guys I remember are Wilf Paiment and Guy Charron. Man, that takes me back.....thanks!!!

Yeah we already traded him for Pettersson a couple of hours ago.

Should have thrown Seabrook in the deal for Horvat also. Seabrook is from BC, so if we send Keith home it is only fair the Seabrook goes as well.

Except I seem to remember him drooling over Marko Dano. Talking about how he was Hossa 2.0 etc. etc.

Yeah that did not pan out. Wiz called him out repeatedly on stuff. He was good at writing long blog posts that were articulate. Not sure if he knew his stuff or he didn't. He just made his opinions sound better than everyone else. The other issue was the length he went to claim he was an ex NHL player. Tad creepy.

Count me as a Dano guy back then. Small pitbull who was willing to play in the dirty areas. ..... Keep swinging with these types hoping to catch lightning in a bottle is the way I see it. I see Caligula in that mold, same as Duclair and that Euro they got from the Wings. Trick is don't give up much to get them and when they fail next swing up.

Don't remember him and Wiz locking horns. They battled on players or whether Mex was an NHLer?

You are welcome. I was around for the expansion from 6 to 12 too.

KC lasted 3 years, then moved to Denver for a short time, and the are now the NJ Devils.

I just looked up their 1st year record, 15-54-11. The uniforms weren’t bad though. The crest was a recreation of a KC statue of a Native American on a horse peering into the distance.

Add Horvat to their stable of young players, Markstrom playing solid goal the last 2 yrs and the VAN arrow points up. They are really bad on the backend though, really bad.

Sorry, Cherry never coached in KC, but after they moved to Colorado, he still had Aastrom then

Canucks also have Demko as future starting goalie. He's played in 2 games so far after a recent callup from Utica.

This is for anyone to answer but if the Hawks did trade Keith to Vancouver, what is a realistic return? I imagine the Muzzin deal is a possible template to get a ballpark estimate of asset types like a 1st rounder, current roster player, and prospect.

I never knew Mexicohawk, Elbows filled me in on him back when I first started posting here. That WSCTenton guy said that he was a Penguins fan. Just go to that board and check for him there if you're interested.

Toews to Winnipeg.

Kane to Buffalo.

Rename the team Chicago Ice Hogs.

Play before 5000 fans.

All good.

Lol, i think both. If I recall Wiz didn't like some of his drawn out opinions and then questioned if he was the NHLer he claimed to be... or something like that.

Mexicohawk's posts were fun to read and seemed to be insightful at the time (super long too). In hindsight I wonder if they really were that insightful though...

Know the kid well, a USHL boy. Used to talk to his pops on a USHL message board....... California boy, not drafted into the USHL or even the NAHL IIRC, got a tryout with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL, did well, stuck, pilfered by the NTDP, did well, signed with Boston College, 3 yrs there, was lights out, couple WJC, 100 solid AHL games and now at 23/24 knocking on the NHL door. ...........Solid developmental path. I'm a big fan.

But Markstrom has been with the league leaders in high danger save% the last 2 yrs and is signed thru next yr at 3.8 mil. Think he's their starter thru next yr unless the Hawks trade for the 28 yr old??????

Wonder if Keith's additional term is an asset or liability regards to trade value. Muzzin only has one year left, while Keith has 5 years left.

How about the Canucks 1st round pick and forward Jake Viraten. Don't know much about him except that he was Vancouver's 1st round pick in 2014. That fits Stan's MO. Jake has one year left at 1.250M than an RFA so he can be re-upped rather inexpensively. Or instead of him one of their top minor league prospects.

Thanks 41. My pickled mind can't remember what I had for lunch let alone how Mex and Wiz got on. I could see Wiz getting crotchedy just trying to get thru one of Mex's War and Peace novels of a post.

Miss both as a matter of fact.

Right but Horvat hasn't missed any games. I was just pointing out Vancouver is right there even though 2 of their 3 best forwards missed a bunch of time.

Now THAT makes perfect sense to me, given Keith's family and historical ties to that area. If he has asked to go and wants to be in VAN, wish him nothing but the best.

How bout Markstrom or Demko as part of a Keith package? They also have hotshot goalie prospect DiPietro. Had to look this up but doubt they would move top prospect Dman Juolevi.

I suppose that depends on the team, while is cap hit is relatively high his actually salary pretty low as time goes on.

If Vancouver were to acquire Keith it would probably be with the idea of making a push for the playoffs this season so subtracting from their lineup is not something they would want to do.

Maybe their 1st round pick and Sam Gagner who would be a cap dump for them to clear some cap space to re-up Boeser and Goldobin next season. Gagner is currently buried and has a $3.1M cap hit this season and next. Taking on Gagner through next season is to offset Keith's 4 more seasons under contract.

Edit: oops - forgot the add Vancouver would include a prospect.
