As it stands now, we have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds over the next two years. That abundance of picks should be used to make a run at the playoffs. JB's shown that he's a risk taker, willing to overpay to get his guy, and probably drunk.
- Lunaion

Drafting and trading drunk and for drunks got us in this position to begin with. Lol.

If only the Canucks traded Brock Boeser for Brayden Schenn...... If only the Sabres traded Colin White/Travis Konecny/or Brock Boeser for Robin Lehner

They didn't...they traded Noah Juulsen….

Let's clarify.

Darcy and his cronies weren't good at the drafting, if we're picking on that specific year.

The jury is still out on Botts.

Agree.
Can't argue that.

And you'll be sitting at the corner of the bar at Osteria with Whaley and Murray crying in your beers about what raw deals you all got.

3 first round picks for Duchene? C'mon.

What has Duchene won that you'd think he'll come in here and fix our problems? Who's playing on his wings, Thompson and Sheary? 😂😂😂 Yeah, great line.

This isn't Xbox.

- Powerslave

I say this with all honesty....Id rather have Matt Duschene for the next six years of Eichels career than the 3 picks we are going to get this year. absolutely yes...Id rather have a proven #2 center right now on this team for 6 years, than 3 hit or miss kids that probably wont see the ice for 3 years and then wont do much.

Absolutely

Then again, we can wait for them to develop and contribute...when Eichel is 28.....then if the don't work out, we can redraft some more and wait until Eichel, Rhino, and Dahlin are 30....then if that don't work out, we can just tank again....

50 years...no cups.…..stay the course...

If anything, I'd say staying the course is what we should have done. If we had let Darcy command the tank years, and completely skipped the GMTM years, we'd almost undoubtedly be in better shape. Not staying the course is what (frank)ed us

there is no guarantee what you are proposing is going to get you what it takes either. I understand what you are trying to do but you talk like what you want to do is the better option.. there is no way of know, but i love the passion

Agreed. Now that Dahlin, Mittelstadt, Thompson, and Pilut are in the NHL, our system is very weak. I don't see why anyone thinks JB is suddenly going to make a GMTM style move. It's not his style and it doesn't make sense this year.

0 people would say the first rounders are guaranteed to work out.

The point is we need a few of them to. It’s a must.

You can’t build this team with more high priced vets.

You need cheap, young skill

- sbroads24

100% agreed.

No point in trading for expensive 28/29 year olds.

I agree. Ovechkin won a cup in his 30s. So could Eichel.

There's still a middle path between do nothing Darcy and Murray's "raid the treasury" approach

I think JB is clearly in that middle. His big moves come in the off-season.

Darcy XXXOXXXXXX Murray

O equals Botterill

3 clicks bolder than Darcy, 6 clicks more sober than Murray.

That's a scientific assessment

So you want 3 significant moves mortgaging the future to address that now?

This team is not designed to contend, relax and enjoy the progress.

Yes, as a 50 year old, 40 year Sabres fan, I would like our team, that hasn't really competed in 10-12 years, to do something to improve the team other than tell the fans to wait another 6-7 years. Yes. If "mortgaging the future" means trading 18th to 26th picks over all in the first round, forwards that cant crack the NHL lineup (Nylander and Ollaffson and Smith) and defenseman that clearly aren't going to be TOP 4 (Guhle), to land one or two quality NHL players to make our team better NOW...

We have plenty of top end talent in 26, 9, 53, and 23...and to some extent 55. we have decent 4th line talent in Erod, Girgenson, Larson. so if trading picks and prospects would strengthen the middle...

youre goddamn right that's what I want.

I wonder what round Schenn was picked in?
- sbroads24

1) we aren’t picking 5th overall
2) should i list all the 1st round busts from that year?

I don’t understand the thinking that all these picks will work out

I want to contend, not take a shot at making the playoffs.

We don't have enough top end talent. We don't have enough second tier talent. We don't have a strong enough prospect pool.

If we keep the Sharks pick maybe we're lucky enough to have another Thompson 3 years from now
