The chances are higher, but the odds are the same as picking 1 time. You just have a 30% chance 3 times instead of once.
- jcragcrumple

This is true, but a 30% chance taken 3 times moves it to a probability of like 66% or so I think.

Been a long time since I did probabilities.

Additionally, most 1st round picks at least end up playing in the league. You're, at minimum, gaining cost controlled depth.

You mean us sucking for 10 years, and then Botterill has to give a press conference where he urges people to have Darcy-Regier brand Patience?

First round pick + for Kane = Gone in 3 years
First round pick for Lehner = gone in 3 years
32nd overall pick + for Oreilly = gone in 3 years

2nd + 3rd rounder + mediocre prospect for Skinner = about to sign extension after career year.

I’ll take the way JB seems to want to do it, which isn’t trading first rounders

- sbroads24

People will only bring up old regimes lack of drafting success when proving their point but not our prior trading success involving first rounders. Nothing to see here Sbroads. But every hypothetical trade proposal for a player will be for someone who was drafted once upon a time last time I checked.

0 people would say the first rounders are guaranteed to work out.

The point is we need a few of them to. It’s a must.

You can’t build this team with more high priced vets.

You need cheap, young skill

- sbroads24

Exactly.

Cap era. Need to take your chances or simply accept that your franchise will never be better than middling.

There was only a 20-% chance at Dahlin right?

Man we shoulda moved that puck man, could’ve been Patrik Stefan!

The funny thing is they want to trade for guys who were first rounders.

Like how about we take our shot at drafting a Couturier instead of giving up 3-4 assets for one halfway through his career already?

- sbroads24

If you want a 2C. Don’t win more then 10 games the rest of the way and pick top 10. Problem solved. While that guy is developing sign a stop gap in Nyquist, Hayes, or someone that can contribute on the cheap. Or put the hog down on the table and get in the bidding for Duchene. Costs zero assets other then cap space.

Where would have we been all those years if We didn't get Tyler Ennis and Zemgus Girgensons late in the first round.

As it stands now, we have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds over the next two years. That abundance of picks should be used to make a run at the playoffs. JB's shown that he's a risk taker, willing to overpay to get his guy, and probably drunk.

I don't think that's absurd at all....to get a true scoring center... 24-28 years old. A REAL #2 center...id make that trade too.

Id trade all three for a resigned Matt Duschene

- RippedFuel

And you'll be sitting at the corner of the bar at Osteria with Whaley and Murray crying in your beers about what raw deals you all got.

3 first round picks for Duchene? C'mon.

What has Duchene won that you'd think he'll come in here and fix our problems? Who's playing on his wings, Thompson and Sheary? 😂😂😂 Yeah, great line.

This isn't Xbox.

If only the Canucks traded Brock Boeser for Brayden Schenn...... If only the Sabres traded Colin White/Travis Konecny/or Brock Boeser for Robin Lehner

Not much different.

However, if the Sabres had any draft skills and had taken John Carlsson (the next pick after Ennis) we'd be better off.

If we'd have taken Teravainen, Vasilevskiy, Wilson or Hertl instead of Zemgus (the next 4 picks) we'd have been better off.

You're telling me the Sabres weren't good at drafting. I already know this.

Did having Crosby and Malkin stop the Pens from selecting Jorden Staal ? Why can’t we have 3 centres down the middle ? Leafs have Kadri on the third line. Bolts have Point, Stammer, Johnson/Gourde.

Let's clarify.

Darcy and his cronies weren't good at the drafting, if we're picking on that specific year.

The jury is still out on Botts.

Another path....to get some depth.....offer sheets...Im not talking Mariner, Laine or Matthews...but I could see some depth guys that might be worth over paying a little...

Winnipeg has Ehlers, Scheffle, Little, Wheeler, Bfuglien and soon to be Laine...all on big money deals...Id cherry pick Connor, Tanev or Trouba….

Calgary...lotta big long term money there too....Bennett??? why not take a shot at Tkachuk?

Vrana from Washington..
