Muzzin to leafs: two prospects, first-round pick in 2019 Draft

a decent trade for the leafs for a non UFA

a 3-4 dman
age 29
1 year left at 4 mil

kiss goodbye keith going to the leafs; as if he was going anywhere

not sure what this says about keiths value...

Muzzin 4 goals, 17 assists, +10 on the worst team in the Western Conference....he’s a very solid 2nd pair Dman and built for the playoffs. Mid-late Round 1st and a couple middling prospects...great move for the Leaves

I wonder if Toronto would be willing to part with a conditional 7th or future considerations?

i agree..i think its very good trade for them...they have him for another year and can move him again if they don't want to extend him..

Keith really isn't that good anymore IMO. Even as a teams 2nd/3rd best defenseman(which he would have been on TOR). At 5mil and declining/aging every season he's lost whatever value he once had when that contract used to look like a steal.

So much for the talk of them targeting a right hand defenseman.

He is an overager, so have to take the numbers with a barge of salt. However, he was drafted so someone saw something. Maybe the change in GMs for the Sabres let him fall through the cracks. Though, the numbers are impressive.
- Elbows15

Thanks. Secondcityhockey has him ranked as the 23rd highest Hawk prospect. Probably Rockford bound after the WHL season.

Average 2nd pair guy at this point. That’s a big fall from his otherworldly play in 2015 Playoffs where he was head and shoulders the best defenseman on the planet. I don’t see him going anywhere, hopefully they give teams a buyout in the new CBA bc Seabs is done.

On the whole or when he's actually kicked into full gear (it's obvious when that happens in certain games)? Does he slot higher if he gives it his all at all times?

When has he shown this “full gear” since June 2015? I think what you see is what you get from Keith at this point in his legendary career.

Keith's career is likely to finish much like Hossa's. He probably plays 2-3 seasons more and then he will be unable to play.

I asked wiz about him and he said the kid is a second offensive line talent. Not bad but don't expect a star

I can't agree more.

I have had a chance to see Adam play live about 4 or 5 times this year and I seen the exact same things as you.

I think it would be an excellent choice for the Hawks to let him play another year in London. Next year he would be the #1 guy on defense and nobody is better to learn the game from than Dale Hunter.

Great post Paulr!!!

- scott.jackson

Agree as well gents.

London another year would be a great idea for Boqvist based on what I've seen and knowing the Knights org.

Game 4, period 3 against Nashville, and from time-to-time in games that "matter" (rivals, etc.) when the Hawks are down and trying to get a lead back. So, I do wonder if he would be more Keith-of-old on a contending team.

Disagree. I think Keith will be able to play for a lot longer than that. I don't think his play will hold up but his body will for at least another 4-5 IMO.

Really solid pick up for the Leafs.

They're not done either. I say 1-2 more moves are coming.

Hossa at 40 would still be a Top 6 forward in the league if not for his skin disease. Miss Hossa the most

You might have been correct if this was even one year ago. He knows both are on the downside of their career. Would you want them? Keith is still capable and probably could rise to the top level of play in right situation
But I do not think Keith can sustain a top level performance each night over a long season. The only team wanting him is one needing a veteran and they feel he would be a good fit

Just imho

I'm not disagreeing with his ability, but his desire to keep going when his minutes are minimal will probably be a big factor. They will find an injury for him to blame it on.

Anybody know anything about this Brandon Hagel kid playing in the WHL? I guess he was drafted originally by Buffalo, but he never signed with them. The Hawks signed him to a 3 year ELC last fall. I noticed he has 74 points in 45 games this season. Looks like he will play in Rockford next year.
- boilermaker100

Rockford bound for sure but a nice signing by Bowman. Very low risk and the kid is playing lights out in the WHL. Let's see how he can do against men in the AHL.

Hmm. One of the attributes that I saw in scouting reports on Beaudin was that his gap control was one of his main strengths.

TBH, I haven't seen any of his games this season. But in his brief taste with the Hawks during the pre-season, I thought he did well in that area.

- Elbows15

Beaudin has solid gap control. I like him a lot.

Here's an analysis from Elite Prospects:

Nicolas Beaudin is a diminutive yet cunning defenceman that is able to use his size to his advantage. His mobility is all but elite at this point; he primarily uses his speed to open up passing and shooting lanes in the offensive zone. With and without the puck he stays composed and in-position, allowing him to analyze situations effortlessly and make those calculated decisions. Defensively, he is assertive and, though he isn't able to impose himself physically, he uses his vision and quickness to take away options and put pressure on the opposition. He plays a structured game offensively, and he does the little things right. His ability to recognize where the puck is, where it is going to be, and why it is going to be there is an indicator of his high-level hockey sense. When you put together skill, speed, and excellent decision-making as well as he does, that translates to on-ice productivity and power-play time. All-in-all, Nicolas Beaudin is an offensive defenceman that understands his own game well and ever seeks to expand upon his strengths.
