So this was on the CBJ blob....

Suggested trade:
Ryan Murray + Conditional Pick (see 1 below) for Simmons + Conditional Pick (see 2 below)
Condition 1: If Simmonds signs with CBJ, Philly gets a 4th Round Pick
Condition 2: If Simmonds does not sign with CBJ, CBJ gets a 3rd Round Pick

Where do I need to deliver Simmonds?

Everyone would make that trade. Except for Columbus.

Neat logic.

Does 30 goals make the team better defensively or fix the PK...hell it hasn't even fixed the PP. Although if someone snaps their fingers and tell everyone to execute those 30 goals will be huge.

- Glak18

I thought we added 30 goals when we signed van Riemsdyk

Why would we want a bottom pair Dman for Simmonds? This is a horrible trade. I'd rather take a first round pick from some playoff team rather than a bottom pair Dman. I thought that was a parody blog by the Columbus guy.

Actually it was you who used faulty logic. I illustrated that with the Giroux comment.

Murray is not a bottom pair defenseman.

A 25 year old sound defensive D-man? For a UFA.... I'll take it. I doubt Columbus gives it, but I'll take it.

Different players can bring different things to the ice and have identical numbers. IMO what made Simmonds very good wasn't his goal scoring, it was the fact he could score while playing a "tough" game.... Hits, trash talks, fights... all of it. I don't see the "tough" in his game anymore.
- youarewrong

If you take away Simmonds goal scoring ability, he wouldn't be close to the player he has been. Those other qualities are nice but not the main value in his game. What you see is the league changing rather than Simmonds changing.

Haha i think the first 5 picks puts people away, even though Galchenyuk and Reily turned out solid, but the middle of the first round churned out some quality NHL players. Those first two picks and Renhart tho, jesus.

My goal for a Simmonds trade would be something like this:

To Boston: Simmonds
To Philadelphia: Ryan Donato, conditional 3rd rounder on if Boston gets to the finals then turns to first rounder, or turns to first rounder if Simmonds re signs.

or

To Toronto: Simmonds, Hagg, 2019 4th rounder
To Philadelphia: Jeremy Bracco, Mason Marchment, Nikita Zeitsev, 2019 3rd
rounder

The people on this site are ridiculous, if we added Murray he would get a tongue lashing constantly. Why would we add him when we have all these young guys playing now plus Meyers and Morin?

Nope nope...don't talk that sorcery now. Any team that trades someone can not become a better team...impossible.

I mean 2 years ago the Flyers traded 25 goals and never replaced it and look how much worse the team was. Imagine if you added 25 goals to the team where magically everything else stayed the same.

Why can't re-signing Simmonds lead to the team to be improved next season? He's going to score close to 30 again.

Murray is better than all of them at this point. We don't know about Myers yet. We don't know about Morin. Hagg is a 3rd pair player in my opinion. Gudas is a nice player.

Seemed Scott didn’t truly understand it takes two teams to complete a trade. Plus, Hexy was reportedly very close-lipped with pretty much everything. He could have had several trade discussions or even one in the works prior to being fired.
- arichardson22

If that was the case, then he should have kept upper management in the loop. Keeping everyone in the dark gave them no indication the moves that were available weren’t positive for the team. Ultimately, I don’t believe his GM skills were lacking, I believe it was his lack of communication skills and omnipotence that doomed his tenure. On the other hand, Fletchers’ lack of moves so far give me hope that he isn’t a knee jerk, make something happen no matter what type of GM. Since this season is pretty much lost as far as playoffs go, i’m patiently waiting to see if the moves Fletcher does make, are positive LONG TERM moves, or make the team competitive NOW moves that ruin the cap position and gut the farm system. This delicate balance is what separates great GM’s from run of the mill retreads.

BTW, that Spanky clip and post to BiggE made me laugh out loud! Thanks!

I wouldn't even count Gudas. He will soon be moved on from because I feel him and Hagg are similar players. Nextyear Hagg could handle his role I believe.

Gudas is RH and he handles the puck better.
