Mitts is already in the NHL in his draft + 2 season. Dahlin is already playing. Yes I give Botts credit because if he Murray’d us instead of being patient we probably end up picking 8th. Samuelsson, Pekar, and Laaksonen all have strong chances of being Sabres in 2-3 years time with only Samuelsson being just outside the first round. Davidsson will be a bottom 6 guy for us as well at one point or another. Comparing the Botts regime to prior regimes is like comparing apples to oranges. We also have a different mix of scouts then the ones he had in Pittsburgh and he ultimately makes the pick where Shero/Rutherford would have ultimately made the decision in Pittsburgh.
- Pegullaville

You’re still assuming a success rate that
NO ONE has had... EVER

Will Samuelsson & Laaksonen be here in 2yrs?
We all thought that about Guhle...

Is Pekar gonna be a legit player for us?
MANY on here thought Girgs would freaking be Captain

You’re giving Botts credit for things that haven’t even happened yet
And frankly, we have no idea how the players he’s chosen these past 2 drafts will turn out

i wouldn't do that.. i don't see how it makes us better in the long haul. i would have to swap middlingstats out.. but the 1st and guhle + sounds good
- SabresFaninIndiana

I'm not sure what else the Flyers would want if they're trading a quality center on a great contract.

Let's say they said a 1st, Guhle, and one of Reinhart or Casey? Don't they have to ask for that much for Couturier?

i don't think you can use Dahlin to bolster your point. and yes stats is in the NHL, but should he be? i am not sure. the rest are still way up in the air..

Substitute those names with Bailey, Baptiste, Armia, Grigorenko, Guhle, Foligno, KAssian,Hodgson, Girgensons, Pysyk, McNabb, Adam, myers, Ennis.

All prospects who were "Sure fire" top 6/top 4 players for this team for a long time.

Depends what Philly wants to do.

if they want a rebuild or to restock teh system.
1st, and Nylander is a good starting point.

It's good they have 3 first round picks this year.
No one is saying Murray the entire system.

Its give a 1st round pick for a 2nd line center, because currently this team does not have one and its killing them.

a 1st round pick is great, 3-5 years from now. Unless you get that ~1% player.

- ImThatGuy

First round pick + for Kane = Gone in 3 years
First round pick for Lehner = gone in 3 years
32nd overall pick + for Oreilly = gone in 3 years

2nd + 3rd rounder + mediocre prospect for Skinner = about to sign extension after career year.

I’ll take the way JB seems to want to do it, which isn’t trading first rounders

Again, You missed the whole, Don't Murray the thing and give away everything for 3 players. but a 1st and a prospect, both who you hope turn out to be a top 6 player for a legit younger 2nd line center with term.

Whats your solution to fix this team so its not Skinner Eichel?

Or are we just going to wait 2-5 more years for all of these prospects to come up and make a difference, like all the others have.

Would you trade the Sharks 1st ++ for Couturier?

What I would do?

Make a smaller trade involving one of our LD (McCabe) + a pick for a guy like Coyle. A guy who can be a 3C next season when Mitts inevitably gets better.

I would look to find a RD depth player and look in UFA for a wing like Silfverberg, Zuccarello or try and swing big for Stone

Draft and develop guys who are going to need to produce in 2-3 years

MIttlestadt doesnt need to just get better, he needs to get a hell of a lot better to man the #2 spot.

Looking at Line combos and Daily faceoff, Mitts is #144 rated C.***
The sabres 2nd line is the worst in the entire league.***
*Again, per their rankings.

Yes

I am not sold on Couturier as a legit 2nd line center for THIS team, but if the SJ pick is closer to pick 30 than 20, and you can get away with only adding Guhle, I say this is a risk/reward trade.

We need to move only 1 of the 1sts for a player, and with what Muzzin just got, I think it can get done.

We have to take a chance on a few players now, as well as stock the farm system and let prospects grow in the organizations.

Be like American politics in here sometimes: extreme to one side or the other with no consideration for both arguments having strength and weaknesses.

We can trade 1 of the 1sts, but not 2 of them unless its for freaking Kucherov and we all know that will never happen.

I’m not denying that (though I personally wouldn’t doubt we see a decent jump from him to end the year) but you can’t put yourself in the same situation as you just did.

If it’s Couturier great, but I still severely doubt they trade one of the best contracts in hockey who’s locked up for 3 more years.

Again, it depends what Philly wants to do.

It's not just couts

Ottawa - Duchene
TBL - Point and Johnson and Miller
Philly - Couts
SJ - Coutoure or Hertl

Im calling on all of those guys. Some pipe dream.

It's true that each of Kane, O'Reilly, and Lehner are gone. But we had meaninful contributions from 2 of the 3 for a total of 6 NHL years. and we acquired assets in exchange for them when they left.

I'll grant Lehner was a mess.

The other side of those trades are Roslovic, Cam Morrisson, Dennis Smirnov, AJ Greer and Colin White. Colin white is making contributions in the last year or so. The jury is still out on Roslovic. Morrisson, Smirnov, and Greer are nobodies.

What has more value - 6 years of meaningful NHL contribution (and the assets acquired in exchange when they left), or one year a jury out, and a pile of magic beans?

The Sabres second line needs help at all 3 positions.

Coots has 39 points in 46 games. So a 70 point pace.

If anything id move Mitts to the LW and go with a second line of Mitts Coots and Thompson

I’d make a strong push for Coots.

Every team needing a center would though.

He isn’t coming here for a first and a Guhle prospect

It’s a Reinhart + deal

And there’s also Brock Boeser, Konecny, and others who were available in those spots.

I’m not going to do the back and forth that’s gone on for years over these picks but all great teams have players who have been picked in spots not expected to turn out a star player, and have become star players.

The Sabres need this, badly. These types of players provide critical productivity at a cheap cost for years.
