I wonder if there is a Scenario where we trade JvR for Skinner’s rights in the offseason.
I have no idea what’s going on with Skinner right now. |

He drives me nuts with his inconsistency but letang is an infinitely better player than ghost. And I like ghost. |

For those of you like me, who don't give a rats behind about the all star game, here is a new topic for today: All time favorite films, which as a former film major, is a subject near and dear to me.
Mine would be, in no particular order:
Casablanca
The perfect movie, IMO. The dialogue, the performances, the way it was shot. Everything in that film is just awesome. It also features some of the most memorable lines in film history.
The Godfather, parts 1 and 2
To me, both I and II are two halves of the same film. Love just about every scene in each. Too bad they didn't quit after those two however.
Rosemary's Baby
One of the most chilling films I've ever scene and one of the rare instances where the film is better than the book. The cast is absolutely sterling.
Animal House
One of my two favorite comedies. Every scene in that movie is funny, Belushi was at his finest in this film and he owns every scene that he's in.
12 Angry Men (the original version)
One of the best written films of all time. Considering that 99% of the film is basically 12 men sitting around a table, it's amazing how the movie captivates you and holds your undivided attention. One of the finest ensemble casts ever put together as well.
The Empire Strikes Back
IMO, by far, the best Star Wars film. It's the perfect escapist sci-fi treat and the fact that the ending isn't a happy one, just makes it better.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The best sci-fi/fantasy film adaptation of all time. The cinematography is awe inspiring, and the special effects are amazing. Serkis' performance as Gollum was perfectly done as was Elijah Wood as Frodo and of course, Ian McKellan's Gandalf
Reservoir Dogs
The dialogue is fantastic and it's just a great, down and dirty story. Tarantino's best film, IMO.
The Gold Rush
Charlie Chaplin at his finest. He was an amazing talent. If you don't love this film, you don't love movies
Young Frankenstein
My other favorite comedy. The performances, especially Wilder, Boyle, Feldman and the always fantastic, Madeleine Kahn make this film just a treat to watch. Shooting it in black and white was a great choice. It's my favorite Mel Brooks film. - BiggE I vote Blazing Saddles over Frankenteen...

Both are great, but I have a soft spot for High Anxiety.
My movies would be:
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
True Grit (the original with the Duke)
The Great Santini
Paris Texas
Field of Dreams
Good Will Hunting
The Green Mile
Kill Bill 1 & 2
The Big Lebowski
High Anxiety

Lots of very interesting movie lists. I notice that many contain only movies made in the last 20-30 years and have no B&W films. It’s my contention that younger people do not watch older movies or movies made before they were born. My son is that way. Am I correct in this assumption? If not how could you explain 3 or 4 decades of films being omitted from so many lists? |

This season it was easy to chose Letang over "literally become a ghost." |

It's not that uncommon. Even when I was studying film in the mid 80s, many of my classmates had never watched a silent film, or any film older than Citizen Kane. I could never understand how they could be majoring in film, but have no knowledge of the work of pioneers like Sennett and Chaplin.

Movie scores, different then soundtracks, are my thing..
Sicario is really amazing from a score perspective sadly Johannsson passed away so we won't hear more from him.
The work that James Newton Howard did for M Nights films are great with The Village being a favorite.
Did you see the live recording of the BSG version of All Along the Watchtower with Starbuck helping?
Christopher Young has put out some great horror work with the original Hellraiser score.
The true score and not the soundtrack to The Crow is great. Everyone of that era raved about the soundtrack and rightly so but few people knew that the movie score was just as good.
Lots of other great ones out there with Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore (LOTR), Enio Moricone and others.
The master for me though is John Williams. He has so many scores that millions of people know usually within a few notes.
Let me know if you want to try others as I can probsbly suggest a score in any flavor you want. - opeth_pa
I did see the live BSG stuff ... there was also a concert on the Azores Bear McReary did with a full orchestra doing the BSG material.. I actually saw one of the female musicians crying a little when she was playing..think it was a flautist.
Hans Zimmer did the King Arthur soundtrack and that was fantastic...
Have to look back and see who did Gettysburg.. |
