Do you foresee Yakamoto recalled and would you be comfortable if he earned a regular oppoetunity? If this worked out then Nugent-Hopkins could be.dealt

The only way I see RNH being moved is if someone throws a crazy offer at the Oilers. If the Oilers want they can buy discount wingers for this next season and see what Koskinen can do for them and tweak again at next years TDL. I don’t see them giving up yet another one of their bonafide Stars after letting go and botching so many others. He’s on a 70+ point pace this year and he’s got a good, defensive presence on the ice. If Miller is worth a 1st, a 2nd, and a young RFA then to me the conversation with RNH starts at two 1sts and an already budding RFA. I don’t think Anisimov, a 1st and a prospect gets it done even though that’s cap savings for the Oilers. Even if you threw in a 2nd I still don’t think that does it. I honestly don’t think they move him and Yamamoto would be a poor replacement IMO

So when like Yeo, took over for Minnesota did that team or even st Louis really have that much more or even better talent? I'm not really sold on that argument alone. Also to say they have played better over the last 20 games is really stretching things for a team that is in last place and gives up a league lead in goals .

However my entire point any rationale person would give colliton at best a D and worse case a F.

A grade level of a B is down right living in fantasy land

I would say absolutely. Those were both playoff teams with starting goalies on the roster, both are things not projected from the Hawks this season by most analysts and fans alike. Not a good comparison imo

I saw it, just finishing some thoughtful responses.

Good luck with your rebuild, I think Stan has a good opportunity to get a high end pick this year and snag Panarin and turn things quickly but we’ll see!

I respectfully disagree with you here. The Oilers are indeed trying to move Rieder now, but if they want to dump him in the offseason it won't cost them anything. He's an RFA so they'll either trade him for maybe a 5th rounder or they won't qualify and he'll walk, right?

The player the Oilers need to dump off is Spooner and at $3.1MM I don't think it's going to cost them a lot in order to do so. I could see them sending Spooner, a prospect and a 1st to the Coyotes for Richard Panik and then look to re-sign Panik. They'll probably look for more bargain players such as Pirri and Maroon while insulating their roster by re-signing Khaira and Pulj

This was something I heard, not came up with RE: Rieder.

I think the point was to dump him now to help them acquire help down the stretch to make the playoffs.

Agree, Spooner is a guy they would love to get rid of.

First of all, you are the authority, not myself about the Edm Oilers.

I was referring to what seems like RNH not living up to the high draft choice. I could check his annual point totals but I do recall he has been injured and missed time at least a couple instances.

Obviously the lack of good enough defense makes it more difficult to generate a lot of points

That being said, with the primary attention once McDavid came into the league (after RNH), I figured RNH won't face the top checking line or best offensive line each night. Even if RNH does not have Draisalti as a linemate, i figured he should score more IN PAST YEARS. I do not have stat's knowledge memorized. I see from your response he has amassed 46 in 51 hp this campaign which is I suppose ok on a bad team

I want to ask this; what upside do you see for RNH and would you consider trading him/what value do you say he holds

- jhawk59

In RNH's last 2 seasons combined he has played at a 69 point pace over 82 games.

RNH is debatably a 1st line C/W or an upper echelon 2C on the low end (Call him a fringe 1C). He's versatile in the sense that he is good defensively and can play wing if needed too.

Fair value for him would be a similar aged D man that is considered a borderline top pairing guy since C's and D's hold similar value.

I don't think anyone would offer up a D man like that and because we need forwards as bad as we need D, Nuge is best off staying put IMO.

Ditto all around. I'd definitely be getting a Manson WC jersey and he's definitely the type of D-Man this team could use. I hope that Stan is identifying this and goes out to get someone of substance to fill the void of a Defensive D-Man who's not afraid to mix it up instead of going out and getting another Offensive D-Man like Hamilton when pretty much all of our current top prospects fit the same profile as that

Finally! Someone said it! All of our d are offensive D men. We need a tough as nails d man like Hjarmlson who take pucks to the body and block the poop out of pucks.
