Funny that Dubas was on Sportsnet a month ago and said they would be fine if they got offer sheeted. Lol
Growing up in Ontario and listening to all the Leaf fans I would love to see both get offer sheeted. - scott.jackson
I'm with ya Scott!
Hey, heard you were chatting to my brother (they real Justin) last week. |

Sounds like the leafs are talking about shorter contracts for Matthews and Marner .Something like 5 or 6 years for a little less money( cap hit ) .I don't know if that a good idea or not .Just what I read . - oldduffman
Read this too, at least with Matthews, that he would take a shorter deal to help the club. Don't know man, Matthews has dinged that shoulder 2 yrs in a row IIRC and missed significant time. .......... If I'm him I'm getting paid as soon as I can before an injury kills the last 4ish yrs of big earning yrs.

Yes to Philly deal if we sub a different prospect in for beaudoin. Ana deal yes with Manson and max Jones instead. And Saad for Hamilton wouldn't be bad. I'd trade hayden or martinsen to nyi for ross Johnston he's blocked by matt Martin right now. |

Yeah I know they're rare but I'd love to see both of them get offer sheets and screw up the Leafs or their cap for years! It'll make them regret signing Tavares and Nylander! - paulr
Well, yeah. If any team should throw an offer sheet at Matthews it should be Arizona. If they are ever going to be serious about trying to be a hockey market. The beauty is it would be the revenue sharing from the Leafs that would help them pay for it. LOL |

Why would Tampa trade Callahan now to free up space to add another player like Callahan...and mess up chemistry?
In the summer he will go.
Regarding Palat and Killorn, there will be a long list of teams competing to get these guys. Not sure they will be available. These guys are not 32 with 2 years left at 5 mill. They have lots of tread left on them.

I heard he played well.
Did he stay out of the penty box? He's usually good for a few slashes. |

What if they can get Stone or Duchene with that space and go all in. |

He stayed out of the box. The game really got out of hand. The penalty boxes were full the entire 3rd period. |

The Leafs seem to have Tampa's number. I had Tampa picked as the cup favorite when the season began but when I see they are unable to sustain pressure against a poor Leaf defense I'm not so sure. Most teams who enjoy success against Toronto expose their defense, Tampa isn't able to. |

Yeah the Bruins go right after their D forcing them to make mistakes all night. Also Matthews really has a problem with Bergeron, he's rendered completely ineffective. |

Having been through cap hell as a Hawk fan for the last decade, the returns will be nowhere near the value of each player. For instance, the Jets are at 54Mish for next season for 9 players. Problem is 3 of their RFA are Trouba, Laine and Connor. A conservative guess for those 3 players I would put around 20M total. That leaves them around 9M for 9 players. Even moving Perrault or Little doesn't leave a whole lot of cap space because it now adds two more player slot to replace.
Oh and Brossoit is also a RFA. They are definitely in cap hell after this season. - Elbows15
definately conservative...they in heap big trouble...laine might command 8 plus mil per for his 2nd deal...3 years ago saad got 6 mil per for 6 |

If Toronto trades Kapanen it is going to be for a top 4 defenseman. They are going to need to replace Gardiner. Toronto is very high on Kapanen and they don't want to trade him. If push comes to shove and they trade him they want a proven defenseman in return. - scott.jackson
I think your “if” has already been denied. TO has said multiple times that Kapanen and Sandin are basically untouchables. Obviously that can change, but I don’t think it will. TO absolutely needs these low-cap contracts to continue to compete these next few years |

Kapanen is up for contract at the end of the year. I bet he is going to want 5M to 6M. There is only so much money to go around.
Big decisions need to be made in TO |

Just being a devil's advocate here. Capfriendly shows TB with 6.376M in cap space next year with 16 players signed. Let's say cap goes up 3.5M next year giving TB about $10M is cap space.
Pointe will have to resign for say 5M, so 5M left for 5-6 roster spots, including 3 d-men if d-men such as Giradi, Stralman, Coburn walk, They will have to rely on a bunch of $1M defensemen to take their places to fit under the cap. A bunch of young or cheap veteran defense is not a good idea for a cup contender (see our Blackhawks).
IMO, TB will have to move somebody and free up salary space to beef up that defense next year.
Maybe Stevie Y got out at a good time. - boilermaker100
Point likely gets way more than 5 or 6. He likely gets closer to 8 imo. Tampa will move out a couple forwards but it’ll be easy. The only complication for Callahan is his NTC. Other than that they also have Palat, Johnson, and Killorn who are all valuable and easy to move. In return they’ll get young roster players and picks and will remain competitive as long as they continue to groom them properly |

Fun to think about but offer sheets are rare. Though, if ever there was an off-season to do it, this is the one with all the RFAs out there. - Elbows15
Four #1 picks for an offer sheet for Matthews, I think.
Won’t happen. |

I’ve done the projections on capfriendly. The cap is so much higher than what it was when Chicago had cap problems. Chevy has done a tremendous job as GM in WPG, much better than Stan and honestly much better than I initially thought he would. Myers, Kulikov, Little, and Perreault will likely all go prior to next season. These players will not fetch a ton in return, but they have nothing to do with Tampa’s situation. With the exception of Callahan, all of their players hold a fair bit of value |
