So we have to wait until year four for him to be anything more impressive than “bottom 6 pretty decent”???

El Paso. No me gusta.

If we have a top 6 like Winnipeg's we would of had to, but we don't. You know the top 6 consisting of Ehlers, Laine, Scheifele, Connor, and Bryan Little all drafted in the 1st round by that team and retained by that team. If only they traded some of those first rounders for guys deemed "tradable" by others.

If he's so solid, what kept him out of the league for 2 years?

Putting up 83 points in 97 AHL games and developing like many 1st rounder's selected outside of the top 10 ? Im still curious to know why we should trade a 1st rounder + other assets to acquire a player that the other team deemed tradeable for the assets we are giving them. If that said team would rather have our first rounder then why shouldn't we not keep it ?

Because they actually had a good NHL team, which left no room for him?

Trades are made because they are mutually beneficial. A team like the Wings, Kings or the Sens are in the frist stages of a rebuild retool and are not in a position to optimize 24 and 25 year old skilled players - their primes will be wasted on those clubs. They have reason to exchange that value for the picks who are presumed to be coming into their primes 3 and 4 years from now - like Roslovic did.

We are in my opinion in the last phase of the rebuild - flipping the switch and playing to win. Now we need more prime talent ready to play, and experience.

It's not all that confusing.

Joel Armia was on that team for both of those years.

Surrender.

If those players are good enough however that said team wouldn't trade them regardless. Instead they'll trade their rentals and vets 27+. Unless that young player requested a trade (Hamonic) or wore out their welcome with their respective teams (Duchene, ROR twice). Or Brayden Schenn who is in the rumour mill again. Or Derek Stepan who has really helped the Coyotes out of the abyss ? Or Derek Brassard who we wouldn't even move a 2nd rounder for at this point. Those are all of the guys with term that have been traded in the past few years.

whether the skilled NHL player is 24 or 26, does it really matter?? Does requesting a trade or wearing out a welcome with one club eliminate the value of the younger skilled NHLer?

You asked why we should want them instead of the first rounder. I tell you every time I would rather have Hamonic, Duchene or ROR than a first rounder.

Career stats are approx 0.33 ppg . "Pretty decent bottom 6"

I don't want to wait for that. I can do better with Evan Rodrigues who is closer to 0.50ppg

That's my point.

This is assuming that’s all it’s ever going to be?

Roslovic impressed a lot of people in WPG.

He doesn’t get the linemates or PP time to pad his numbers.

There are a lot of underlying numbers that suggest he should get a bigger role

I don't minimize the player because his ability to contribute is still ahead of him. I minimize his value (or the value of picks) for this team.

We endured the "suffering" to build a team that can contend for years and years. The window is beginning to open. Our core players are enterring their prime NOW. We don't have three or four years to wait. We need to round out the core NOW.

In lots of ways, its exactly the other side of the coin of your ROR argument from last year. "He's a good player. He just won't be when this team needs him to be."

Yet the Islanders, Avs, and Sabres are better the year after trading all of those players while stock piling assets that will make them even better in future years. Calgary is the only team that can say they benefitted from the trade. But if Dobson becomes a top 4 d-man that he is projected to be, as quite as soon as next year, then once again I'd rather have a 20 year old Dobson over Hamonic. Especially since we aren't on the magnitude of Calgary.

I don’t disagree with your premise but my retort would be that a lot of these picks would make a bigger impact earlier if coaches wouldn’t make them “earn it”

Casey might have needed a little more seasoning but he also has been put with underwhelming linemates until recently, and recently he’s looked better

I wouldn't pay a 1st to rent Duchene, and I'm sure Ottawa would want a lot more.

I don't think there's enough talent here, or in the system, to give up futures to win now. Even if you agree with none of that, it's still hard to imagine JB making those kind of moves this year.

Roslovic has 27 points in his first 79 games
Schefiele had 35 points in his first 74 games.

No I am not saying Roslovic will become a top 5 C in the NHL, but not all players develop at the same pace.
