I wouldn't pay a 1st to rent Duchene, and I'm sure Ottawa would want a lot more.

I don't think there's enough talent here, or in the system, to give up futures to win now. Even if you agree with none of that, it's still hard to imagine JB making those kind of moves this year.

- Lunaion

I see jbotts as a seller.

I highly doubt we go rental. What happens if we give up a first for dushane and we still miss the playoffs?

if skinner doesn't sign they will be full blown sellers by the deadline

odds of additions are slim right now

can you imagine if the oilers had Barzal instead of trading the pick to the islanders for griffin reinhart?

I don't minimize the player because his ability to contribute is still ahead of him. I minimize his value (or the value of picks) for this team.

We endured the "suffering" to build a team that can contend for years and years. The window is beginning to open. Our core players are enterring their prime NOW. We don't have three or four years to wait. We need to round out the core NOW.

In lots of ways, its exactly the other side of the coin of your ROR argument from last year. "He's a good player. He just won't be when this team needs him to be."

- Der Kaiser

Our core players are 24 (Risto), 23 (Sam), 22 (Jack), 18 (RD).

We've got some time. Even if it takes 4 years, these guys aren't losing anything.

I was going to bring that up in my rant but felt that moves by Chirelli would be deemed inadmissible by the jury as the defendant was clearly delusional

If we were Toronto then yea we should move the 1st rounder. At this point we are still retooling.

a little birdie told me, expect a lot more scouting in europe over the next few years for free agents, aka pilut signing

botts feels dahlin will be the sabres biggest blue chip to attract future nhl players from european leagues

I'm starting to think jbotts ships skins to Vegas.
I'm sure he will do everything possible to sign him 1st.

Looking at this roster, I dont see the push heading into the deadline.

If we can rid the cap space and make a few shrewed signings of top 9 players then we are a playoff team forsure next year no doubt in my mind. Then in a few years the draft picks supplement those players. The Isles added Fippula, Komorov and Matt Martin and that made guys like Cizikas, Clutterbuck play better and give them a good bottom 6 and a reliable vet 2nd Line C. Yes the play of Lehner/Greiss and having the best head coach in the NHL helps as well.

It's where(also Asia) we send all our poop, obsolete electronics are incredibly expensive to dispose of properly here, so they send them to third world countries and they dump them in the rivers after they strip the precious materials out of them.

Dude what the ever living (frank) is the obsession with 1st round picks? Aside from our top-3 picks the past few years, we have drafted 4th liners and traded those players away...

My god, we are more likely to get a girgensons than a pasternak with our draft history. We currently have a top 10 pick hardly scoring in the AHL and his ELC is almost up...

poop man, we can afford to trade a 1st round pick. What we need is a better scouting department, not multiple 1st round picks.

I’m impressed with UPL, Laaksonen, Pekar, Samuelsson, Mittelstadt at pick 8, and Botts basically throwing away a year for Dahlin. I’d like to see what this scouting department can do with three first rounders. Last 10 years is irrelevant.

When someone can accurately tell me what we are getting in return for the hypothetical first rounder than we can argue whether it’s a good idea.

Because if it’s for a soon to be 30 year old who will contribute for 2-3 years before we are begging to get rid of his contract than I’ll take my chances in the draft every time

If we have to throw in one first in to a package trade to get a fit with term at 2C I say do it. 3 first round picks in 2 years isnt as good as 4, but we really need a legit 2C. I have no idea who that is, who is available, etc. There is no way botts trades away all 4, but one I can live with.
