Michael Pachla: Sabres at the NHL All-Star break and heading towards the trade deadline
- Michael Pachla

nice read

nylander offers almost as much as any non sen brought in from a trade from offensive production standpoint

skinner is the main focus, and dumping crap

less contracts, less scrubs should be the short term goal

chatter on bogo and beaulieu in the last 24 hours

Interesting to see if this team can get their ass in gear and win some games down the stretch.
- Sabre_Tooth

any bumps will be coming from casey, okposo, sheary, and rochester

don't expect huge moves right now

I'm not sure if a 10 day break is going to solve our secondary scoring, young d core mistakes and marginal goaltending as of late.

I'm hoping eichel comes back fresh
Dahlin too

I'm cool with that plan, but it would be nice if they, ya know, started doing it.

I'm not giving up a 1st to maybe sneak into the playoffs. If you aren't giving up a 1st, there's very little to trade to add a top 6 impact player.

I simply can't see JB renting. This team isn't at that point and he's under no pressure to do so.

Agreed. Unless it's for a younger player with term left, you keep those picks.

look at the top 9 and top 4 d for tampa, calgary, san jose, jets

then look at the top 9 for the leafs, islanders, bruins, caps

this team is not close for a push

move crap
obtain picks/prospects

hold onto the picks

don't do what tim murray would do

I'd take it a step further

explore moving anyone but jack and dahlin

if someone overpays for skinner, skunk or risto, move them

if they are not sold on risto, reinhart or skinner take the young assets and do it right

if the islanders or knights offer 2 firsts for skinner, take it

if the nucks offer a first and juolevi for skunk, take it

if the jets offer trouba and vesalainen for risto, take it

I think we really need to evaluate the roster top to bottom

side note, if botts likes reinhart, skinner and risto keep them

Jbotts mentioned "his core" as

Jack
Sam
Risto
Jake McCabe
*hopefully skinner

I definitely could see bogo moved out.

We couldn't wait to move him 4 months ago.

Bogo has had a decent season
-low hockey IQ
- moving him helps draft higher
-free up more $ for skinner next year

Statistically it will take 2 firsts to get a player off Skinner's caliber, especially if they're late firsts from a contender. Maaaaybe 1 out of 2 will be a Pastranak, which is still a stretch.

Shut off the futures treadmill; I want to get off

If they can't make hay with 4 1sts in 2 years, then we need a new group

Bogo is expendable, and overpaid. They should move him if they can

I remember the days when I heard all they have to do is go .500 and make the playoffs... those were the days. Going .500 now they will be knocked out by the end of March

that's pretty much my core with dahlin of course

pilut and thompson should be fine, as will casey given time

I want a good team in 2 years when Jack is in his prime, not sure we have the secondary guys

we are ok if nylander, olofsson, smith, and guhle pan out
but that's a lot of if's

I don't see a decent roster with okposo, bogo, scandella, pod racer and beaulieu on the roster, assuming pommer retires

then you add gus and lockport larry, and ho hum sheary

Why can't we make trades and not sacrifice the future? People only seem to have to ways its like they are bi-polar

Make trades = sacrifice future
or
Do nothing

Those two should go.

Sobotka, Girgs and Larry? Pick 1 to be in the lineup every night, lose 1 and the other is an extra. I actually think Larsson is the most valuable of the three at this point. Girgs has a good game after a scratching. Slobotka is what he is.

Beaulieu for whatever.

Take what you can if anyone is interested in Bogo.

Okposo? Good luck. That situation is (frank)ed.

Elie is useless.

From the BN:

"On most nights this season, it has been hard to distinguish between the Americans’ top three lines.

Is it the No. 1 combination of prospects Rasmus Asplund, Victor Olofsson and Danny O’Regan, a trio that has remained intact nearly all year? Or is it wherever leading scorer C.J. Smith or former first-round pick Alexander Nylander, two other talented, young players are skating?"

I would love to live in a world where the Sabres were bold enough to give that entire line a chance in the NHL. God knows we have players who could be traded/waived to give it a chance

I like it, but I'd go

Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart
Olofsson/Bustlander-Mitts-Okposo (they'll never waive Okposo)
Smith-Erod-Pommer (I really like the erod/Pommer connection)
Sheary-Asplund-O'Regan
Larsson
Sobotka
