It’s an exciting time to be a Flyers fan but my question is, do you want to contend next season or do you want next season to be apart of an on going process?
There are a few bottom six contracts coming off the books. It is my belief that the team should buyout MacDonald. Morgan Frost, Phil Myers, Nicholas Aube-Kubel could potentially fill these voids.
My issue with walking away from Simmonds is the same issue I have with possibly trading Gudas. We know we can get value in return but that could mean taking steps back with inexperienced young players placing them. I honestly believe a healthy Simmonds could be the difference between contending or not next season because I don’t think we’ll replace him with a better player. - SuperSchennBros
I don't think this team has any choice but to have another year of the process. Reason I feel that way is I don't see this team acquiring enough talent over the trade deadline and free agency to take a run at the Cup.
Even if a surplus of youth is added it's still going to be a learning process for them.
I do expect a better start and possibly better finish next season opposed to this season.

For me personally, I don’t advocate for trading Gudas without adding/upgrading the veteran piece. I really don’t see the need for both Gudas and the top tier veteran I would like. Trading Gudas in this scenario helps to compensate for paying for that guy.

As badly as this season has gone I think we'll be better off in the end as along as Fletcher doesn't do anything crazy. The reality is that you're going to have to overpay for a 3C or a veteran D-man and you're not getting both. When it comes to free agency the teams that have the money will spend it. He better have a plan in place so we don't revisit mistakes of the past |

For sure, at this point, I think the biggest priority is that top tier veteran d-man. We can either go for a out of the box alternative at 3C or keep Giroux at center (this is not a risky move IMO). Clearly the risk came at center when we were unwilling to move our best player to fill the gap after alternatives didn’t pan out. News flash...G can still play center.

You're okay with everything they ever do no matter what it is. That must be how you got the username Management Jizz Licker. - Feanor
That's incorrect. If you would come around more you'd know that. The most recent example is that I disagreed with how they're handling the Weise situation. I also vehemently disagreed with the Hextall firing. All documented.
Get back to me when you have something real. |

Hak was left as coach at least a year longer than he should have been. I didn't stop complaining about that mistake till it was rectified, and I won't stop with this one either. - Feanor
Hakstol guided the team to a 10 point increase and 3rd place in the Metro in the 17/18 season. He deserved the coach of the year votes he received for accomplishing that with a flawed lineup. |

I would like to contend next year and get further than the first round in the playoffs. With the ample cap space we will have, I think we can make up for losing Simmonds whether it be spent on a veteran dman or one of the stud wingers. I say dman because if our defense improves greatly overall, maybe we don’t need those goals coming from Simmonds, and that those goals can also be made up for internally by current youngsters or one that should make the team next year. It’s very hard to tell what our team will look like come the start of next season between all the cap we have, the UFAs coming off the books, younger players pushing for spots and finally, any potential trades that may come not including Simmonds. It should be an exciting summer for us. - arichardson22

This is still a potential group next season but I would more so argue more exciting with Simmonds than without. With this said, if we go in another direction, I’ll live. Just know, the Flyers are saving ones regardless once certain players like Lehtera, Folin and Raffl go else where. |

Yeah, I’m not on the trade Gudas wagon at all. Even though his play can be uneven. He’s solid this year. Read bad last year. |

no doubt, everyone knows the big 3 issues, Goaltending, Top 4 D and 3C. After Hex didn't address, Fletcher has no choice, he has too. |

Agreed and I can see that happening.
The style that Gudas plays is a playoff style of hockey. There is a team out there who believes they can win it and they will overpay for Gudas |

Exactly same team, with the additions of a few young players who most likely won't make that big of an impact while developing and fans will get upset....
With same results....oh wait no if we hope more things will change because like Hart and stuff.
Do fans want this team to win? |

It comes down to the same thing it did with Hextall in charge. At what cost. Do we really want to overpay in a UFA contract for Myers? Just to say we signed a defenseman? I don't. Short term stop gap deals are fine. Higher priced deals for legitimate top line players are fine. Moves just to make moves. I'll pass. |

of course he has to address it.....the team is at the bottom of the league. Hextall was fired for not being able to address it and with good cause.
