Could be worse, they could be the Leafs. Having to sign Matthews, Marner, and Kapanen all this offseason.

Maybe, But Matthews and Marner will be 20-22 million between them. But at least they dont have a Lucic type deal on the books.

If they get both those guys signed for under 25 mil I’d be surprised. Marner is waiting for Matthews and he’s going to ask for more.

come on man, obviously Lehtera's presence on the time and/or in the lineup isn't the end all but why wouldn't you want to maximize your lineup? Why wouldn't you want to get younger in his place? Why is it wrong as a fan base to want to see a better 4th line even tho the 4th line isn't making or breaking this team? having a good 4th line could help. I'm tired of the 4th line always consisting of what is left over.

I understand why they had to take Lehtera in that trade and like Weise, he has the occasional good game but all in all he just isn't good

This is where I am at:

When they lose I see it as a benefit because it helps the team long term, in that of draft odds, draft pick.

When they win it is usually because a few of the kids had a good game. This helps the team long term in that of the kids developing, experience and such.

As a fan of this team I am OK with both at this time.

I could take RNH off their hands..... at this point I dont know what his cost would be with that contract. Would Myers and a 2nd get it done?

I wouldnt be surprised. Matthews will be the max contract and Marner wont be very far behind if at all. Then they still have Kapanen to sign or trade as well.

Not everyone. I didn’t expect Simmonds to come into this season at the top of his game following his rehab. I also have no plans to turn on him. If he is willing to sign a 4 year deal a market value, my feeling is we keep him. Most just seem to think he only wants a longer term deal. We’ll see.

Thank you! We have no idea what he wants.

It’s an exciting time to be a Flyers fan but my question is, do you want to contend next season or do you want next season to be apart of an on going process?

There are a few bottom six contracts coming off the books. It is my belief that the team should buyout MacDonald. Morgan Frost, Phil Myers, Nicholas Aube-Kubel could potentially fill these voids.

My issue with walking away from Simmonds is the same issue I have with possibly trading Gudas. We know we can get value in return but that could mean taking steps back with inexperienced young players placing them. I honestly believe a healthy Simmonds could be the difference between contending or not next season because I don’t think we’ll replace him with a better player.

No we don't. And has most have said, its the TERM that we(I) am most worried about.

I would go MAX 4 years at say 7 per.

Anything longer and they have to deal him. Even 3 years at 8 per....something like that. But honestly I don't see him seeking anything less than 6, why would he?

I’ve always felt this way. Leafs have stabilized Coaching. Faith in their goaltending. As much as I believe Patrick, Konecny and Sanheim will be awesome down the road. Matthews, Marner and Riley are already there.

I would go five years but yes, I agree for the most part.

I would like to contend next year and get further than the first round in the playoffs. With the ample cap space we will have, I think we can make up for losing Simmonds whether it be spent on a veteran dman or one of the stud wingers. I say dman because if our defense improves greatly overall, maybe we don’t need those goals coming from Simmonds, and that those goals can also be made up for internally by current youngsters or one that should make the team next year. It’s very hard to tell what our team will look like come the start of next season between all the cap we have, the UFAs coming off the books, younger players pushing for spots and finally, any potential trades that may come not including Simmonds. It should be an exciting summer for us.

Even if the Flyers can work out an extension, they should trade him.

Work out a number, tell him that you will sign the deal in UFA on July 1st. In the meantime, farm him out as a contractor to a team for the best return. That way, you can hopefully use the assets you got for him to improve the team and, in turn, improve his chance of winning a Cup with you.

Just my take.

Don't worry about the Lughes for Hughes.

1999 Vancouver got the Sedin sisters. 20 years later the Canucks get the 1st pick so Jack can play with his brother Quinn.

We love those stories in sports, huh? Too bad Vancouver has a better shot of making a wild card then fall that far out of the playoff race.

I know Hughes and Kaako are the talk of the draft. However if the Flyers get in the top 4 I feel Podzlokin or Cozens could be nice pieces for the future.

Better make it a 1st. A 22 year old defenseman who isn't good enough to play on one of the league's worst teams can't be that good of a prospect.

Nicholson said they aren't gonna deal any of their good/young pieces, so who does that really leave?

Hak was left as coach at least a year longer than he should have been. I didn't stop complaining about that mistake till it was rectified, and I won't stop with this one either.

Maybe, but I doubt it. I think 6 years is more likely. It's really hard to say, Gandler (his agent) is notoriously tough to deal with. It could even end up only being a 3-4 year deal, but I still think they can make a 6 year deal work for both sides.
- BiggE

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2-3 years bridge with TK, Provy and the Flyers betting the players will cash in next time
