The Pens are not trending up as they were. I'm not saying they're ready to press the panic button, but with a week off it seems like a good time.

On a side note, the Ducks just lost Kase for five to six months. He may not be the most important player, but he's one of their top goal-scorers. I have to think they just got a lot closer to becoming sellers.

Everyone meaningful on this team has term. From an injury standpoint this team has been a nightmare. The only pending UFA with any value is Silfverberg and they’re trying to re-sign him - he’s likely looking for $6MM+ and his career high in the regular season is 49 points while playing with Getzlaf. He’ll also be 29 to start next season. He has no term so at this point he’s a rental. They have $10MM to re-sign Silf and some depth players and this doesn’t include putting Kesler on LTIR (he’s hurt again and it’s probably his hip again - he may be looking at retirement).

So I’m not sure who you think is a sales target (other than Silf who’s hurt and they’re trying to extend) other than MDZ who isn’t going to fetch a ton. Thoughts?

Montour and Silfverberg(if they don't feel they can re-sign him)

Ship Brassard + to the Canes for Ferland and Oleksiak + Pick to Chicago for Anisimov. Boom.
We're suddenly a better team.

Would Brassard/Oleksiak/1st R.Pick be enough to get Montour and Silfverberg?

Montour isn’t a pending free agent though so there’s no rush for them to sell him now as opposed to the draft, this summer, or next season. They also don’t need to move him to make a roster space for someone else. The only reason to move him then is if it’s a hockey trade or a large overpayment. What is something that does make sense for Anaheim? Unloading Kesler packaged with Montour except that Kesler has a NTC and most teams are probably more likely to do something like that in the offseason

Except that Chicago actually isn’t terrible on D anymore now that Murphy is back and playing well. They also don’t have a need for another defender so if they took one on then they would need to ship one out. It also creates a hole at 3C for a team that is actually not playing terribly despite not having a starting goalie. I don’t think your proposal makes any sense. Not to mention that Chicago has a ton of cap space moving forward. More than enough to add Panarin and continue forward with some cheap depth players

I honestly don’t even think that would get you Montour. Anaheim has Getzlaf, Henrique, and Kesler at center (when healthy) so Brassard doesn’t add any value - especially since he’s a rental AND not a long term need

No. They want to get younger and Brass doesn't help that cause.

Honestly, I don't think the Pens have what they'd need to take both of those guys.

I think we could potentially have what they want but I’m not so sure it would be enough or be what they’re looking for or actually helpful this season.

Montour and Silfverberg for Rust, Simon, Maatta, and a 1st and they probably want Jarry as well. Possibly even another pick added as well

Sprong with a goal scorers goal in Anaheim tonight. His 8th since joining the team. Would be a 30 goal pace 45 point pace playing for this injured Ducks squad. Btw if any of you are in some deep fantasy leagues, Perry might be a good pickup to throw on IR for a bit

Isn't he playing 1st line? 45pts, is not what I want from a 1st liner.

Everyone is massively undervaluing Brassard worth. A 2/3 center with a low cap hit and expiring contract... If Ferland is worth a 1st and a prospect, so is Brass.

He didn't want to be traded to the Pens and it shows. But the fact is, he is in a contract year and can make or break millions of dollars by getting it together with the Pens.

Haven't heard it mentioned yet but I could see the Sens being interested in bringing Brassard back if they can't resign Duchene.

Brassard didn't want to leave in the first place and a sign and trade could help them save face a bit and mitigate the risk of another team outbidding them in FA.

Caps lost to the Leafs last night. Caps are 3-5-2 in their last 10. The leafs are 4-6-0 in their last 10. Both very good teams. Pens are 6-4-0 in the last 10 and 5 of those games were on the dreaded California road trip that spanned over 10 days.

This is a crazy long break for the Pens. They should come back fresh AF and ready to rock. Any chance of Schultz playing the first game back? During the first week back?

From a guy who’s pretty much a rookie on a not deep team? That’s not lighting the world on fire by any means but it’s solid.

0.55 ppg. That's not bad at all. Dupuis only had one season higher than that riding shotgun with Crosby on the first line but most felt he should be there every night.

Fine, i'll amend...

The Pens packaging up a 1st + Hallander + Oleksiak or Maatta is probably enough to get one of those, but not both.

The Pens won't want to give what it would take to get BOTH Montour and Silv

Sprong is scoring, we all knew he would. I said it as soon as the trade happened; the worst part of this deal with be people constantly updating what Sprong is doing.

He's not a Penguin anymore, it's done, time to move on.

Since going to Anaheim his 5v5 pts/60 is around 1.55 which is about the same as ZAR.
