From a legit source?
- Santo_44

I think it was just speculation(ie; throwing poop against a wall) on TSN radio they were saying that the reason Dubas had to say he won't trade those two guys is because they are two guys that most teams want..

Edit: since there has been a lot of talk surrounding the Leafs and Canes.. All started by Pierre LeBrun, I think that's what they were getting at.

Hamilton for Nylander and Lilybust.
- Scabeh

I would probably do that trade, if it was Hamilton and Ferland

you can't really blame the man... right now, and for a good portion of last season as well, Marner was the machine that made the Leafs tick. Yes, Matthews scores more goals and creates space for others.

with Matthews goal scoring having flattened out ... the argument can be made that Marner is more valuable to the team than Matthews - at this point.

- BorjeFan4Ever

So....

It's probably not a fair comparison, because Matthews is a really weird player. 90% of what he does isn't remarkable, in the sense that he's not doing anything that other guys in the league are doing. He's just doing it faster, with more accuracy.

What I mean by this is that Marner takes the puck and skates around, doing stuff that you hold your breath and go, "Holy poop, did he just do that?"

Matthews just collects the puck and shoots it into the net. He doesn't seem to do much different from what I would do - he just does it 1000X better than I would.

Having said that, I've been to a few Leafs games in the past month - and Marner is driving play 50X more than Matthews.

You notice Marner every single time he is on the ice. You can't say that about Matthews at the moment.

I don't think they're interested in that. Not so much looking at the playoffs this year, more towards next season. They want to go into next year with a lot less question marks up front.

Faulk's been pretty good. Having de Haan next to him has done wonders for his defensive game.

- BINGO!

Well yeah, I’ve heard no deal with Kapanen.

Johnnson is probably the player they are willing to trade. But I don’t know how serious his injury is.

Are we in agreement? Someone send Dubas a text with details.

I keep hearing Dubas is saying no deal to people who want Kapanen...

2019 1st and a forward prospect? Do the Hurricanes have any interest in that? Or are they fixated on the fact that they think they still have a shot at playoffs this year.

Also how’s faulk doing this year? Some people on here think he is crap defensively but from what I’ve seen and read he’s been great this year.

- Santo_44

I would trade Nylander before Kapanen.

Nylander may be a better player, but when you factor in cap hit and return on a trade, it's a no-brainer.

Trade Nylander.

Keep Kapanen.

I agree with this...but there have been times where Matthews walks through 3 guys only to watch his linemates blunder the play.

Yeah, having Brown on his RW has not been the easiest. Seems to mishandle a lot of Matthews passes

It’s an interesting thought. I’d like to keep both....

Johnnson is a guy I’d look to trade. He’s going to be a good player as well but Kapanen’s game breaking speed to go with hands that can keep up with is rare. Extremely rare.

Apparently the Leafs aren’t interested in Hamilton. It may have to do with not wanting his personality on a team that’s apparently so close.

Faulk or Pesce.

Muzzin is a backup. But Petro and Parayko would be nice too but I’m not convinced they would trade either.

Yeah.

The whole point of getting Nino was to replace Ferland long term anyway.

....(frank) this was easy. Why is it taking those other idiots this long? Not like we haven't been talking about it for five months or anything.

This seems to usually happen. After big trades we find out that deals were close 6 months earlier at the draft or TDL.

This stuff takes time...the ground work has been laid though. Both teams probably have talked a lot and know exactly what it would take to get it done.
