You are looking at the trade wrong then.

Simmonds and the 1st are the two main pieces. However as many stated, they would be surprised if they got a 1st. Kassian(1.9 mill) is a low risk guy for our bottom 6.

Rest of the players are involved to give EDM cap space. Which is the sweetner to get the 1st.

Spooner(3.1 mill) for Weise(1.15 after 50% retained).
Talbot(4.166 Mill) for Elliott(2.75)
Petrovic(1.9 mill) for Folin(800k)

If we're trading them Simmonds, we don't need to add a sweetner. There is also no reason why the Flyers should want Kassian.

I don't think anyone is taking Elliott at this point and definitely not Neuvirth.

Why not? They need cap space, Talbot has been awful. Dumping him gets cap space but you still need a G to backup Koskinen. He just got signed to a largish deal for a G that played a total of 29 games. I doubt he got that raise to play behind a 4 mill dollar Talbot. Elliott is a good goalie and he should be healthy after the all star break. Elliotts 2.75 mill contract looks mighty good for a team strapped for cap

I understand why you included him in the deal. Significant injury at the end of last year and a significant injury 6 weeks into this season. Just my opinion that a team wouldn't be trading for him.

How does this help the Flyers next year? I mean getting rid of UFAs this year really means nothing.

So you get a 1st for Simmonds...great another prospect for 2-5 years from now.

If they trade Simmonds for a first round pick, they get something else also.

If Edmonton misses the playoffs...

I know why people add Flyers UFAs, to balance out the roster, but it's a sideways move even with the possibility to re-sign them. Hell if the Flyers want Talbot they will get him in the offseason, an early trade will not change that.

The Flyers need to improve the team, taking on UFAs to help them with the cap is not improving the Flyers.

That's not the something else I'm referring to. In response to the previous posters proposal, I don't want another teams crap. No more taking on bad contracts to help other teams out. The something else the Flyers get in the context of your statement that a 1st round pick means they have to develop that player and it doesn't add immediate help, is they get the saved cap space that they didn't spend on Simmonds to add someone. That's an asset.

Talbot has a 10 team nmc and were apparently on the list. So exit sandman.

Agreed, the whole my junk for your junk...been there, done that. Next.

As for the last part, I don't see the money not spent on Simmonds as an asset for the Flyers. If he walks then doesn't that mean they get an asset for free? No need for the Flyers to have to pay for that given added cap asset though.

He said on the fan 590 it was always his dream to play for a hockey team that paid their goalies a bunch of money to not play hockey

Oh I saw the M-NTC is a list of teams to be traded too...CRAP.

Thought it was a list of teams he didn't want to go to.

Why not hit double digits in goaltenders for the season

Hart can stay as the starter, but let’s rotate some more back ups so we can hit our numbers

If the Flyers choose not to extend Simmonds in a contract, then that cap space saved, is most definitely an asset. How is it not?

It would still be an asset then if he wasn't traded and never re-signed....

How can trading him turn it into a more valuable asset?

You're not looking deep enough. It's a simple case of the potential of getting a first round pick AND using the cap space they save to add a player to help the team. That's the full picture of a trade of Simmonds.

Where is the #3 C?

Spooner for Weise (Flyers trade old poop for new poop - Flyers win)
Folin for Petrovic (Same as above)
Elliott for Kassian (Basically helps Edmonton with cap space)

So Simmonds for a 1st and a rented Talbot who won't be re-signed, hopefully.

Meh. That's if Simmonds accepts a trade to Edmonton.

- Glak18

If you can get an unprotected first for Simmonds from a potential lottery team...yes please!
