What are they going to do with Simmonds who also needs a new contract? If they let Simmonds walk then they essentially traded Nylander to rent Simmonds for a playoff run. Why would they do that?

I’m not saying they will, or should do it. However, there are some reasons to. One, they get pushed around, as Boston did last year. They need some beef and toughness to their line up, and second, their window is now. Yes, I know they just signed Nylander, but Kapanennis essentially the same player, and they can’t afford to sign and keep all these big money forwards. They’re getting smacked on the back end. Hagg and Simmons would def help them on a long playoff run, and getting rid of some forwards whom they can’t afford to sign next season. So....the whole idea has merit, however there would have to be multiple pieces in a deal like that. Toronto has never been in a better spot to finally win one with the right complimentary pieces. If they don’t do it this year, their window will close with all those 10mil (give or take)forwards. (Tavares, Mathews, Marner, Nylander)

I want to know if Simmonds gets traded, will you cry for the day or do we have to hear the tears for multiple seasons?

My guess is the latter. I love the guy, as I'm sure most people that post here do, but would rather not have him being paid 6-7M until he's 36.

I know the kid has an unhealthy obsession with favorite players, but give a rest. If the Flyers were actually in a playoff race then I could see the benefit of keeping him, but next year and the year after there is absolutely no need for Simmonds.

Kapanen may become available and if he does SIGN ME UP!

Huh? There are reasons why Simmonds may be moving on rather than being re-signed but the cap isn't one of them. The Flyers are in good shape cap wise. Contract TERM, not cap hit, is the issue with Simmonds.

I would say it's just fit with the team. They made their bed with Simmonds when they signed JVR. They're probably not looking to move Jake...there's only so many forwards that you'll pay big money to that have less than ideal speed and less than ideal 200 ft. game in today's NHL.

The idea of Toronto being interested in Simmonds as a player has merit. The idea of them including Nylander for Simmonds even of we throw in Hagg doesn't have merit. They wouldn't do it. Nylander has far more value than that.

I think they plan to start him with the Phantoms, just like with Hart this season. The plan was to play a full AHL season.

Nope, in my opinion it is 99% certain when Sandstrom comes over to NA he will no doubt play in the AHL for a year at least to adjust to NA. That 1% is there if he gets traded
