Only way i can see it happening is if his agent already has something lined up overseas.

I hear he's quite popular in The Netherlands.

Didn't backread, but why would he be suspended at this point?
- jmatchett383

If he refuses to go to Lehigh.

Also if I recall his agent was asked to find a trade for him. So maybe his agent will say if you refuse to go to Lehigh we can get you a deal one of those teams.

Right...but he hasn't been assigned there yet, as far as I know. If they haven't done it yet, I don't think they will now.

Boston management knows what they're doing. Flyers management doesn't.

I also think we'd know if the Flyers tried to assign him and he refused. The entire situation is odd.

Honestly, I think we're making a big deal out of nothing. They've won 3 in a row, so we have nothing else to talk/complain about.

In the big picture, not a huge deal. I just think it's bad asset management. I think for some reason they have further devalued their asset. If he has value at all at this point.

I also don't like this talk about buyouts, taking back a bad contract etc. This is stuff that a contending team needs to do. The Flyers aren't there. If they can't trade him then simply send him to the AHL next season to finish out the contract.

So their protecting him as an asset so he doesn't get hurt. Why aren't they doing that with Simmonds? Or Raffl?
- MJL

Because they are still helping this team in some way. Obviously there was a decision made about Weise. IMO Fletcher finished his evaluation period and decided that Weise's presence whether in game or out of game was detracting from the Flyers team. I also imagine while trying to make a deal for him they don't want him to get injured playing with the Phantoms or practicing with the Flyers. If there was major locker room strife or battle with the coach I'm sure we would have heard more about it.

I don't think your speculation that they don't want him to get hurt has anything to do with it.

Truth

Flyers will not make the playoffs

FLyers are not an organization that will tank

even if they were there are too many teams that will finish below them, probably 2 in the west and 2-3 in the east.

Looking at the standings I could see the Flyers having a decent 2nd half and there being 5 teams below them in the east.

All I want is for the "kept core" and future core to play well, make some good trades, find the right chemistry.

I think he actually has been practicing, just not with the team.

Also, I think they have decided that he'd addition by subtraction and just don't want him as a constant distraction and don't want to make him attend functions knowing he will not be a part of the future.

Probably still letting agent get a trade for him. Better to get an asset than go down the send to AHL, Weise refuse, then mutually terminate route.

If Weise refused to report to the AHL, the Flyers next course if action is not mutual termination.

If they suspend him, it gets nothing done. He needs to be gone. Better for both sides to mutually terminate if they assign him and he refuses.

Suspending him leads to the Flyers attempting to terminate the contract due to Weise breaching the contract. Completely different than a mutual terminatiom.

It's a huge shame that NAK wasn't called up when they decided Weise's time as a Flyer was over. Now it looks like he won't play another NHL game until next season.

Meanwhile in Boston young forwards like Heinen and Forsbacka Karlsson get promoted to the NHL and given meaningful roles at age 22 after just one full season in the AHL.

This is a down year for some players. As a group, we haven’t played well and though our better players are starting to heat up, it doesn’t mean sell. It means we should evaluate for next season.

Darren Dragger said it best between period on the Boston Game. Once you lose a Wayne Simmonds, you’re gonna want a Wayne Simmonds back. Whether anyone wants to believe it or not, Simmonds is a special case. JvR is a “Power Foward” and probably more skilled buy is unwilling to get his nose dirty enough to win. Tom Wilson with the Caps might be a power forward with strength, grit and the ability to score but hurts his team by simply being stupid within his role.

If Simmonds gets traded, that’s the business of hockey. If he stays, he’s still a useful player that buys out time for Lindblom and Patrick to come into their own. I’m fine either and frankly I think it’s dumb to laugh at Simmonds’ flaws each night in hopes that we grab a large return.

May I propose a trade?

How about...

Simmonds to Toronto for Nylander

They need the "weight" that Simmonds brings for a Playoff run and it clears space for next year and rids Toronto of somewhat of a malcontent.

For the Flyers they get younger, keep the window open with the young players. They have the money for Nylander and the term.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Simmonds but his style of game could roll off quickly over a long term, big raise, new deal.

Can I propose yet another trade?

I wonder what it would take to get Duncan Keith from Chicago.

Flyers fans would have to understand that he would be a calming factor on their young D but not a D1 who we expect 50 points from.

Would you move a first round pick for Keith? I think I would. Perhaps dump Weise there?

Thoughts?

Toronto would not make that trade.

Why would the Flyers trade a first round pick for a 36 year old player? (Duncan Keith)

If I'm Dubas I can't trade Nylander right now as he "promised" Nylander he wouldn't trade him:

Nylander told reporters on Monday that he was told by Leafs GM Kyle Dubas that he would not be traded as long as Dubas is in Toronto.

William Nylander: “Kyle has told me multiple times that as long as he’s here he’s not going to trade me.”

— Jonas Siegel (@jonassiegel) December 3, 2018

But what does Dubas have to say about this supposed promise?

“The discussion that William and I had had a couple of times was a fear of his … that he was being signed to be traded,” Dubas told Bob McCown and Stephen Brunt on Prime Time Sports. “And my discussion with him, I just affirmed with him that that was not our intention whatsoever.

“Our intention was that as long as I was here that I saw him as a part of the Toronto Maple Leafs.”

Trading Nylander now would be a detriment to future negotiations with players who can't get clauses.

Agreed, and even if they did move him, which is doubtful IMO, it won’t happen before this offseason at the earliest.

They’ll need to do something soon though. Once they re-sign Marner, things are going to get tight.
