For sure it will. Also why play 100% playoff hockey during the regular season when your pretty much locked in the playoffs and have no chance of getting the Presidents Trophy? There is no point risking injury, I cringe when they block shots. Washington are doing the same thing. - Drapz
Keep up this kind of play and they won't have to worry about the playoff injuries.

The Tampa game and Boston game fall within the timeframe in question. They played very well against 2 good playoff ready teams. You cannot discount that with some silly "they played scared" notion. They played their game. They played well. They didn't play like that against Arizona and Florida. They didn't work.
They aren't losing because of physicality. They aren't getting their chances. They are floating against weaker opposition hoping to squeeze by on their skill alone. Won't work.
They need to work to get the puck and to get into a spot to score with it. - burn
You can call that notion "silly" all you want, everybody's entitled to their opinion. Half this team is afraid to get hit, the importanter half sans a few, and it's painfully obvious to anyone with two eyes. That's a problem if you want to compete in the NHL without enforcers. Also, If you don't think that has any bearing on or correlation to hard work/floating then i'm not sure what your point is.
I'm not trying to be a dik or argue, but what's your definition of hard work ? Skating faster, harder poke checks, harder stick lifts, quicker fly bys ?

So on another note, Mikko Koskinnen almost makes as much as Frederik Andersen - Archaic
what in the hell is Edmonton doing?
like there is no need to give him that much money and 3 years.. there is like a 95% change they regret that by next season I am sure

The Leafs haven't been getting many power-plays. Why? They're afraid to initiate contact and refuse to crash the net. On the defensive end, they stick check all day and rarely throw a hit. The opposition can go to the net with impunity. If you refuse to play with physicality, you get few retaliatory penalties. Why would any team worry about crashing the Leafs net, if they don't feel the need to pay the price? Dubas and the Leafs brain-trust are so in love with analytics, that they've forgotten about the physical side of the game. The Leafs have no physical forwards and the defense is even worse. What gives with this clone style of play, with smaller, slighter built wingers and defenders with no brawn or toughness? Dubas needs to act soon, before the Leafs fall out of a playoffs spot. Most of the fan-base would never have believed this, one month ago.
My personal beliefs are this; Dubas will not make a significant move until after the All-star break. It isn't good enough to add a bottom 6 winger or third pairing defenseman. The Leafs need to do a deep surgical procedure on this core of this team and grit needs to be added to this talented, but one dimensional team. - PrinceLH
I actually agree with all of this. |

I think that's what going on with Matthews. Ever since the hit that took out his shoulder and him out of the line up for a while. |

I swear, I'm not trolling, what is going on with Matthews? Is he getting chances, but just not burying them? I know he's still got a decent amount of points the past 13 games, but just the one goal. A quick look at his TOI is all over the place. Did Babcock take away PP time or something? - Wetbandit1
Meh, dont worry about trolling, its a message board, if people cant handle trolling then leave, ya know.
He hasn't been on his complete game for a while. The effort is there the goals arent, but i think he has 13 apples in the past 13 games or something like thar. |

I think his rant is a bit of an over-reaction to a slump by a good team.
Pucks arnt going in, several key players at the same time have went cold. the leafs at 5v5 are getting the better of things overall, which is good.
the PPs have dried up along with the PP also going cold.
it wont take long for the Leafs to swing back the other way and this will be forgotten |
