the biggest question tho, is why. They have him signed for the remainder of the year, he has such a small sample size (despite the fact hes actually be decently good). Why are they signing him to a multi year contract based off of this. Do they think he is really that good where they think he will demand more $ as the year goes on? I doubt it.

I don't mean to do this to you guys, but..........

.....It's almost literally the Scott Darling contract. But with less track record than Darling had, incredibly.

Saw on twitter. Real

Hopefully at least they get an asset for Talbot instead him walking

Kosk has been solid I think. I mean we needed to sign someone and don’t wanna go into the off-season with nothing.
A year longer than idve liked, marginally more cash too. but I don’t hate it

Too much cash given way too soon. I mean he's already signed through this year, why not hold off on an extension?

Why not ride Koskinen the rest of the season, and get a better picture of what you actually have in him before extending him?

Doing it now makes no sense.

this, what exactly was the rush here? Was Chia afraid his price going to go up higher than this?

With the Edmonton #Oilers extending goaltender Mikko Koskinen for 3 years with an AAV of $4.5M, the #Oilers 2019-20 season projection is currently:

Cap hit: $73.7M
Roster size: 16

WOW...4.5m contract extension for 27 games, 31 in the NHL. I sure hope he has been lights out for that money because 25 games doesn't tell a whole lot.

At least Koskinen is an actual NHL goaltender in 2019, I guess.

I don't think he'll end up being that bad, but I agree that the rationale for this signing is definitely worse than the Canes' offer to Darling.

the sample size is way to small to lean in either direction imo. He could totally be worth the 4.5aav, or he could totally suck. Either way, the signing is still a insane gamble for a 30 year old with 31 professional games played IMO.

Friedman says that at this point roster decisions in the Oilers front office are being made by consensus.

So a bunch of people who should have been (or actually were) fired a long time ago are helping shape decisions made by people who should be fired now.

Sorry Schweiner, you guys deserve better than Chiarelli. He's trash. You'd have to think he's getting close to being canned. I like the Oil, here's to hoping he gets shown the door sooner than later.

This is the sort of poop that happens when your braintrust is Kevin Lowe, Craig MacTavish and Peter Chiarelli.
