I think Freddie is your MVP and if not very close.....that deal ended up working out wonderfully for you guys

Him and Marner have been the guys this year - it's great to have competent goaltending though!

Next home game, the crowd should chant "Fire Chiarelli" (maybe you have already?) Vancouver fans did a similar chant "Fire Gillis". Wasn't long after that he was fired.

How much do you think Marner makes after this season?

Nah, he's in a slump but unless we can get something exceptional for him, then it's a no go.

Mostly because you folks don't have a D of that caliber for Chia to trade to us...

My guess is about 9.25m. Kuch is the top end, but he'll be damn close to that, especially as the tax situation is less favourable here.

Honestly, less than 9 and I'm (frank)ing ecstatic

I’ve never seen an RFA class like this.....mega money is being spent just on that this summer let alone the usual stupidity of UFA signings

It's insane... but that 2015 draft was one for the ages. Folks like Barzal, Chabot and Boeser going mid to late first round. Crazy poop.

Man, I remember the grumbles when Leafs did a sign and trade for Freddie... and that was after 125 games with a 0.918 SV%.

It's quite possible that Koskinen will live up to the deal, but holy poop is there ever a lot of risk involved...

Is he doing this to spite Edmonton? Like he already knows he's getting fired so he does stupid poop because he's tryimg to put them in a worse position. How do you look at his moves and be like "you know what, make another one"

At this point I don't even blame Chiarelli. It's ownerships fault.

Who knows who is even pulling the strings at this point....the whole group needs to go not just one guy....knowing this team they will keep Chia on as our cap manager and the cycle will continue

Like how do you look at a guy with a .911 Save Percentage (and I was wrong about him) and say, "Let's lock him for three years at 4.5 million"

This is a bad (frank)ing contract and this management team is a (frank)ing joke. I'm honestly so close to being done with this (frank)ing team.

Where would you rank Koskinen in relation to the other 30 NHL starting goaltenders?

You're too quick to jump on a bandwagon and too quick to jump off one. You were most definitely wrong about his contending for the Vezina (lol) but he could quite easily be a starter for the next 3 years. He could JUST as easily implode and be the worst goalie in the league.

Alas, goalies are a predictive disaster.

No axe to grind on T.O., but it will be 10plus or he ends up a hold out or worse, offer sheeted. That guy is too good not to be a 10mil per yr player after this cap goes up again. Just a personal opinion.

I don't think he'll get over 10 - mostly because he's the only one of the main guys who calls the Leafs his hometown team. He could still get it though, and would be worth it

I'm the Stephan A Smith of Hockeybuzz.

I think a tier-system works better with goalies, though it's tough to determine how much one should weigh their performance this year compared to their overall performance the last 3 years. Also, worth noting that regular season and playoff performance yield fundamentally different results.

Observation of some statistics relevant to goaltending skill and a touch of bias of overall stat lines and playoff perfromances to act as a tie-breaker for those on the edge between tiers) brings up a list like this:

Top tier: Gibson, Rinne, Andersen and Holtby (close to being bumped down)

Upper tier: Bobrovsky (drops here because of playoffs and this year) Raanta, Price, Quick, Howard(!), Lundqvist, Lehner (!!!) and Vasilevskiy

Middle tier: Dubnyk, Bishop, Fleury(!), Rask/Halak, Murray, Varlamov, Reimer, Hellebuyck, Crawford, Markstrom (close to being bumped down)

<<< Koskinen falls right about here with his results so far.

Lower tier: Greiss (close to being bumped up), Hutton, Talbot, Smith, Anderson, Kinkaid/Schneider, Allen, Anderson, Ward

Surprisingly so far removed from the 2nd worst over the past 3 years that it's remarkable: Jones (!!!!!)

As I'm no evaluator of goalies I don't know that these are all fair rankings, but I believe this represents a pretty accurate picture of where I'd rank them- Jones being an outlier of such extreme degree that I have to really look into him more now.

So Koskinen falls right in around number 20 like he is getting paid
