Some guy on the EDM blog wrote that he heard that once Spooner cleared waivers, there was a rumor he’d be traded to VAN with a pick as more of a cap dump.

Not saying that’s true, but would like to see some of those trades made, even if it’s a serviceable guy depth going back the other way (Poopoo, biega, Schaller..)

- NewYorkNuck

Looks like Chiarelli doesn’t have enough cap space to get their best defenseman Klefbom back into the lineup once he’s healthy. They also need immediate help with scoring. So how’s about….

Gagner ($3.15MM)
Goldobin ($863K)
Pouliot ($1.1MM)
6th Round Pick 2019 (Washington’s)

Total Cap ($5.1MM)

--- for ---

Spooner ($3.1MM)
Rattie ($800K)
Puljujarvi ($925K)
Manning ($2.25MM)
2nd Round Pick 2019
5th Round Pick 2020

Total Cap ($6.28MM)

Cap Savings to Oilers = $2MM

Unlike some of his deals, this trade would include a lot of different scraps that are harder to put a value on and make a direct comparison. Much less likely that Chiarelli would be vilified as badly for it as some of his other moves. That and getting three players from the Canucks who are better than the ones he’s giving up could be a big win for him.

This is interesting because I'm of the opinion it doesn't matter where we finish anymore. We talk about how teams miss players all the time that go after the tip 5. Let's use Pastranak, Boeser, Debrincat etc etc. A good scouting group can find guys anywhere and while a top 5 to 10 pick makes your pick probably a bit easier there are no guarantees obviously. I look at our draft luck and am thrilled we didnt win the lottery the last 2 years or we very well may not have EP and Quinn. To me that is lottery luck. It's time to start winning with home grown guys. Stay the course try and get picks for expiring deals. Go canucks

I dont know why I quoted you Vantel lol. Have a nice day you guys

- Jkuzzi

I was listening to Cam Robinson on SN650 today . This guy is one of best guys in this area of prospects and draft. He says the clear cut guy is Hughes then a drop off to Kakko then a third drop off from players 3-10 where there are still complimentary players that will help your team.

This is what I have been saying and getting accused of calling it a weak draft when I have not. I will gladly accept this player but I am not tanking to get him.

Of course GM's will make roster moves and adjustments to better the overall position of their respective clubs, which is why I stated this...Now if stickboy gets injured again (seems likely), Markstrom reverts back to crap, Boeser and Horvat dry up again and the team losses 10 in a row.
There will be a real possibility that Benning will try to better the teams drafting position.

- Makita

Seemed like you were saying otherwise, my bad. I agree it depends on how we do over the next 6-7 games.

I know it’s chia, but on paper why on earth would they want pouliot?! To trade Manning, who they just aquired? Puujarvi would also have no place in this deal. I like the idea of getting a pick for caprelief though your numbers are off and thier savings is more like 1 mil which is not much. Lucic as a cap dump we might actually get a high pick or propect.

Lefty is just regurgitating garbage from Botchford. Not an original thought
- CanuckDon

Lefty does not want to trade for a player of Dougie Hamiltons stature because he says Canucks are not at that stage ready for this type of player , that we are years away. How many times in the summer was he saying go all in on Tavares

I've seen several different ranges of years, nobody seems to agree. Shouldn't the definition of millenial be if your parents were baby boomers?

bible thumping aside, hes a damn good player. I would worry more so about the fact that a pretty damn good player has been traded twice in such a short time.

despite some of my earlier critiques of Green, he has delivered a near calder finish for Boeser last year, a good chance at Calder for Pettersson this year, and is putting these kids in positions to produce/succeed. As far as who he sits, I trust that he is doing it for the better of the team and knows more than we do.
- Codes1087

ditto. virtanen probably hasnt been the worst player out there but its better long term for the team that he be held to the higher standard. it does us no good to sit grandlund and have jake play 4th line minutes. push him to be better
