i gotta think Alex has minimal trade value right now.

Probably considered a B prospect at best by now.
Still relatively young at soon-to-be 21 ... so time hasn't yet run out, but the clock's ticks can be heard distinctly.

Sabres Prospect Pool isn't so stellar anymore.
Sabres should be looking to move a fair amount of older assets as much as possible to acquire picks. Hopefully their European scouts can find a couple of gems in 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds.
We know already, from a certain poster, that 6th rounders are gold...so, just pick a name there and he/she will just develop into a terror.

I think it's time to do something with him. If they aren't going to play him after the break, then package him with Beaulieu and the 2020 2nd for a forward with a pulse

missing on that pick is a big blow to the teams development. not even getting a middle 6 guy with that pick hurts

Keep in mind that the Sabres' last two draft's top prospects are already up here, so it can LOOK less "stellar" than it really is.

2-3 1st round picks incoming to replenish. Two Ds and two Fs on ELCs is a nice start. There's a couple guys the Sabres may look to sign in Fitzgerald, Bryson, Laaksonen and potentially Davidsson. I'm sure the Sabres will target a UDFA or two this season. Guhle and Smith look to be the next guys up. Hope Olofsson, Nylander and Borgen continue to develop. Asplund and Malone need another year at least.

All the top end talent is in Buffalo now, being Pilut, Dahlin, Mittelstatd and Thompson. The Sabres lack high end Rochester talent because they pick too soon in the 1st round, and not hitting on mid rounds well enough. Putting 4 1st round picks into the system in the next 2 years is going to help, as they will all likely throw on an Amerks sweater.

Our prospect system overall is fine. Not bad, not great.

Collecting Girgensons (say what you will, he's an NHLer), Risto, Zadorov, Reinhart, Eichel, Nylander, Mittelstadt and Dahlin is pretty fine work. Grigorenko was the only bust so far. Girgensons Risto, Zadorov, Mittelstadt and Nylander were all picks that weren't necessarily obvious picks. And believe it or not, Nylander is improving, slowly.

This org hasn't really been that bad in the 1st round for a while. There's a lot worse track records in the past 7 years.

The real problem is beyond the first round. The only drafted difference makers on this team is Linus Ullmark and Jason Pominville before the trade. Maybe McCabe, depending on your definition of difference maker. That's a massive problem.

It's not that they haven't drafted NHL players, it's they haven't drafted good NHL players

I also would put Nylander in the Grigorenko category until Nylander proves otherwise.

Not to mention that Grigorenko was draft later in the first than Nylander was.

Drafting in the top 15 so often they should hit on 1st rounders.

But other than Dahlin and Eichel they haven't drafted the top 3 players from any draft which is not a good track record when you are picking so high.

Jbotts should give nylander a shot with eichel before he moves him.

Why wouldn't he? Unless nylander is just terrible in jbotts eyes.

He "could" be exactly what were looking for. A top 6 winger

Nhl network had eichel 5th in a 2015 re-draft.

I have him 2nd still. Obviously a bit of a homer

All teams should. Some have failed more than the Sabres. The Oilers and Devils come to mind.

Reinhart was also top 3. What's your point though? They still found quality players outside the top 3.

Brian Lawton wouldn't know talent if it teabagged him. (frank)ing guy puts Barzal ahead of Eichel.

It's an annual tradition to pick an undeserving winger to play with Eichel for the second half. The logic is always 'how could it hurt'. Last year it was Baptiste.

They don't because they are trying to win games. If you're looking for a dynamic goal-scoring defensive liability to play next to Jack, you already have that in Skinner.

Chiarelli will hold onto him until his value has dried up. Trade Nylander for Pul straight up.

I kinda feel like management is moving towards the draft and not the playoffs.

Thus: take a look at nylander with jack
