Moves I'd like to see from JBotts over the next month:

Sign Skinner at 6 x $7.85m (anything below $8.5m and 7 years)
Trade Beaulieu for a 4th/5th
Trade Pommer for a 4th/5th
Trade Scandella for a 2nd

Hockey Trade:
Sheary (retain $1m), O'Regan, 2nd (obtained in Scandella)
For
Ryan Dzingel

The Sabres should bring up both Smith and Nylander after the break. Smith is ready to fill an NHL role. Nylander has been in the A for 3 years, so let's see if he can translate to the NHL or showcase him for a trade. I don't really care if he's Grigorenko 2.0, I just want to know. Nlander doesn't have to play every game either. Just waive Elie and play him every other game if it isn't going well. Get him on this team and see if it works. If he's not on the team this year, suppose he does make the team next year and he starts slow, then they're going to have an even tougher decision to make. Just play the kid and let's see what the (frank) he has at the NHL level.

Incoming excuses:

Why have him in a reserve role when he can play every game in the A? - So he can acclimate to the NHL

He hasn't been good enough to warrant a promotion. - Several players on this team haven't been good enough to warrant NHL spots

Let's just find out if he can do anything

Exactly. We barely moved Kane out on deadline day. I'd be surprised if they make any moves worth anything.

I would try and make a move for Burakovsky. He’s a buy low candidate. He has speed to burn and skill. His qualifying offer next year is $3.5M so if it doesn’t work out then at least it’s a much cheaper mistake then cough Moulson or cough Okposo. I do like Dzingel as well and I think he should be our main free agency target. I don’t think Sens trade him to us however if they decide to move him.

Ya, Dzingel for sure over Burakovsky.
Burakovsky is what, a 12-20-32 kinda guy most seasons...at $3.5m for that I'm probably looking elsewhere. His production probably slips here too, lol.
We have enough tweener 4th/3rd libe players...need more help up top IMO

Difference is that everyone knew Botts had to trade Kane, he had well known "issues" , and Botts wanted a 1st for him.
Pommer, just take him, try to place him on a team with a chance. I like him, and would love to see him raise thd Cup.

Ya, didnt really know what his worth will be, I'd probably take a 3rd just to movd him out a year earlier to open a space for Guhle the balance of the season.

so the choice than is to promote a guy that worse???? the guy is in the AHL for a reason...(he's currently tied for 104th in scoring in the AHL) He probably will get a shot this year how long will depend on him though. Pretty sure we already know what we have... a first round bust, OR and guy that going to take probably another year to find his game.

the only guy in Rochester that looks ready is CJ

Nobody has been more outspoken about Nylander than me on this board.
I personnally believe him to be a bust and he is surely taking his time, but is making me right slowly but surely.
That said, I completely agree with bringing him up and giving him 15 games on top 2 lines. Give him his unearned shot, solely to make the final decision by giving him a favorabld environment to do so.
I suspect he will be packaged in a trade, if not at th deadline, then over the summer.

i think with pommer you go to him and ask.. do you want to be traded for that opportunity and if so what teams would you go to.. then talk with those teams and try to work somethign out for a late pick, if they aren't interested or he doesn't want to move he stays.

Scandella i don't think is a have to move kind of guy.

I agree with this. See if he can play top 6. If not give him a change of scenery.

I don't think Pommer wants to move though right? His whole thing with his family "coming home" I just don't see it. But maybe he wants a cup and would leave the family behind for a few months.

If he sucks in the NHL, so be it. But he's not improving in the AHL. Try him out or showcase him as part of a trade

What teams would name him? I mean what true contender is better with Pominville at $2.7m? I assume the Sabres would retain half his salary in such a deal, I'm just skeptical that a really good team would want him. He's a 12/13th forward, not a guy that's going to "put a team over the top"

no he is not and he doesn't really play PK anymore either.. and he doesn't fit Tampa's game style.. so it would have to be an extra forward/4th liner for Nashville or something like that

That would be another reason to play him. Get some NHL video on him, and drum up some interest. He's mediocre in the A, I can't imagine his value could take more of a hit

No one is pretending he is the missing link.
He is merely a fill-in, insurance policy type player...with playoff experience
A Washington, Columbus, Bruins or Sharks type team would be best fits IMO.
