I kinda feel like management is moving towards the draft and not the playoffs.

Thus: take a look at nylander with jack

- Boss34

I understand the rationale. I just don't see it as something this organization does.

Nhl network had eichel 5th in a 2015 re-draft.

I have him 2nd still. Obviously a bit of a homer

I get the idea that we move anyone/everyone at/before the trade deadline.

Fill in Rochester guys and college free agents.
Like Casey Nelson and cj smith.

Unless we come out of the 10 day break on fire

It's an annual tradition to pick an undeserving winger to play with Eichel for the second half. The logic is always 'how could it hurt'. Last year it was Baptiste.

They don't because they are trying to win games.
If you're looking for a dynamic goal-scoring defensive liability to play next to Jack, you already have that in Skinner.

- Lunaion

Eichel was playing with Girgensons and Pominville. It's debatable at best as to whether they were trying to win games in the back-9 of last year.

And nowhere did I say 'play Nylander with Eichel.' You can search

All teams should. Some have failed more than the Sabres. The Oilers and Devils come to mind.

Reinhart was also top 3. What's your point though? They still found quality players outside the top 3.

- TheSabresTaco

I think your definition of quality is different from mine
Dahlin-stud in the making
Eichel-stud
Grigorenko-not in the NHL
Nylander- see above
Girgensons-finally found his role but for a being 14th overall you'd want more
Zadorov-I really liked that pick and I wish him and Risto would be a pair right now, too bad he's gone
Risto-A good 2nd pairing defensemen
Mittelstadt-is developing, you see promise but you need to start seeing results
Reinhart-I like Reinhart but he is not top 3 in that draft class...Ekblad, Pasta, Drais (not in any particular order)
Armia-a 3rd liner for a different team
Piss Boy-a 4/5 D but he was a later 1st rounder
Kassian-

6 of those picks are top 10 picks, 3 of them are top 2

The Sabres struggled in drafting

poop, I flagged you by accident, sry.

Well I was the one advocating for Baptiste to play with Eichel with 3 games left in the season after they had locked up last place, so I assumed it was directed at me. We had nothing to lose. We were watching 28 and 29 play with Eichel, which brings up a broader point.

Those two weren't producing, so what did they do to "deserve" the opportunity, other than they were NHL vets with experience. The entire concept of "earning it" is not only an antiquated notion, it's also been proven by this regime to be an empty cliche, as evidenced by Smith's bus ticket to Rochester the day after he scored a goal.

These decisions are made on dollars and cents, placating veteran egos, GM egos, coaching egos, and the whims of ownership, not what's best for the club

23 teams passed on Pasta.

Reinhart would have been the pick at 2 for 32 GM's if they had the pick at the time.

Sabres Prospect Pool isn't so stellar anymore.
Sabres should be looking to move a fair amount of older assets as much as possible to acquire picks. Hopefully their European scouts can find a couple of gems in 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds.
We know already, from a certain poster, that 6th rounders are gold...so, just pick a name there and he/she will just develop into a terror.

- IonSabres

They do get 3 first round draft picks this draft. I would recommend keeping all and restocking.

Ouch. I thought you only got flagged for criticizing Saint ERod.

A lot of people were pushing for Baptiste. It's not that I see anything wrong with it. GMTM might have done it. It's just not a JB move. I give more thought into what he's likely to do than what I'd do.

To make matters worse look at who was drafted around each of those players

Dahlin Eichel and Reinhart don't count towards this since they were top 2 picks

Sergachev right after Nylander
McAvoy 2 picks later

Hertl 2 picks after Girgensons (4 after Grigorenko)
Teravainin right after Hertl
Vasilelvsky the next pick

Risto is fine where he was drafted
Armia is too I guess considering that draft class outside the top 10

But like you said nobody has exceeded expectations

You're missing the point

I like Reinhart a lot actually

But there absolutely would have been a debate if it wasn't Buffalo with the 2nd overall pick on who was next...Bennett and Draisiatal were neck and neck with Reinhart.

No, I just sent alcohol-fueled tirades to Boss at 5 am. But then we met in an alley and kicked each other in the nuts for a half an hour while screaming about Larsson and ERod

We're cool now

Perhaps, but plenty of GM's would have taken Sam. And all I'm saying is that it's too easy to look back. Every year, plenty of teams pass on players they "should have taken".

I've always thought that the eligible draft age for the NHL was too young. Too late too fix that now, though. Too much of a crap shoot.

This being said, Boston drafts and develops well.

NHL Network, sponsored by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

At least that is how it feels when you watch it. They talk about the Maple Leafs more than any other team it seems.

While that's true, when you look at the total picture of what we did with our first rounders and all the first rounders we acquired, you can't help but be disappointed. Dahlin and JB are nice consolation prizes.

Murray squandered a lot, but Regier was the absolute WORST, when we're talking about 1st rounders. Just atrocious. (Zagrapan, Heisten, Kruikov, Kassian, Novotny).

Different league now and different team budget for scouting.

I don’t think Regeir was good/great, but Murray was Chiarelli level stupid with how to actually run a team
