So would we do Gudas to TO for their 2019 1st?

- MBFlyerfan

I'd rather get a return that won't take 3-4 years to make an impact. I'd rather go the prospect/young roster player route.

Edit: As the guru said, nothing Earth-shattering on the back end of this year's 1st round.

I have a feeling we are going to have a week of drunk/hungover armchair GM's, posting here.
This for that, pray for this and that or get this guy for that.
All of you and your mindless speculation is exhausting.
How about a week of what we have, rather then a week of pure unfettered speculation.

It sounds very much like the Phantoms could use some AHL forward help. Maybe Flyers can get someone like that for Weise or maybe the Flyers need to look at getting another NHL 4th liner and sending Varone back to save the Phantoms.

Man, loving this 14th-place team with all of our players having regressed.

Never change anything, please.

Oh, and Carter Hart.

Making this Flyers team exciting but not necessary competitive should be our agenda.

It’s all in fun. And we do actually have more positives to talk about since we just won 3 in a row. I would love to hear about which prospects might have a chance to make the Flyers next season.

Great write up Bill,

Is it off base to think that Frost could be similar as a pro to Simon Gagne? (If he can avoid having his shoulder torn apart by a linesman.)

I just see Frost as more of a slashing/speed player than G was coming out of Juniors.

Does anyone think that Elliot or Neuvirth's career is over? I would hate to see it if true, but considering the kind of injuries that Elliot experienced and how he broke down after being used in relief. I think Moose is a good guy and a serious battler. As for Neuvirth...he in an enigma. His ability is clear when he is healthy...but will he ever be healthy?

An interesting topic for future consideration may be how the league wide changes in goaltending technique has also lead to the increased number of groin, hip and chronic core issues with goalies...as apposed to hamstring, knee and high ankle issues from bye gone eras...

I think Elliott can still be a backup to a true #1. If he's only starting maybe 18-22 games a season, he can probably handle it. Neuvirth is a tough one. The talent is there, but the risk is too high. I don't think he's an AHL goalie, but I don't think he's reliable as a backup, either.

2 Questions?

Who is better right now? Hughes or Frost.

If Lamoriello was available this past summer, why didn’t Homer do due diligence and see if there was interest. Maybe Homer was afraid of giving up too much control.

Why didn’t Hexy pull the trigger on Trotz?

We always hear GM’s say if a trade improves the team, then they do it - no matter what player you trade.

i'll be happy if they keep playing the way they have the last few games. they haven't been perfect, but they've been pretty exciting in my opinion.

Girardi and a 3rd for Gudas had no takers.

Ok, I will sweeten the deal.

Let's substitute Coburn for Girardi.

Does that change the deal any?

No, because you're still trading Gudas for a 3rd. If the Flyers want Coburn or Girardi, they can sign them as a UFA (and, IMO, they should see what Coburn's looking for as a 6/7D).

But seriously, unless you're trolling, the Flyers would need assets that don't expire this season, aren't cap dumps, and preferably ones that can contribute as early as next season.

Do any of you want any part of signing Bob in the summer? A coworker told me he might have an interest in coming here.

While junior success is not necessarily a predictor of a player's NHL future, it is statistically worth noting that Frost had 112 points in his draft-plus-one season but was bypassed for Team Canada in the WJC. This year, he is a 1.97 points-per-game pace in the OHL after leading all players at the WJC in points-per-game. Flyers captain Claude Giroux, in his draft-plus-one QMJHL season with the Gatineau Olympiques, had 112 points but was bypassed for Team Canada at the WJC. The next year, he averaged 1.93 points per game in the regular season.

Frost's 1.97 PPG is pretty awesome considering the era and competition.

Coburn is only a 6th, 7th defender now? I was just thinking how much this line up misses Coburn in his prime. Right next to Provorov.

Sure, sign Bob to a max deal, and trade Hart for draft picks. #win

I'd love a Coburn in his prime. Hell, the Coburn in the 2010 playoffs was what people expected, or at least as close as he ever came to it, when he was drafted 8th overall. He got a lot of flak while he was here than I think was undeserved (but dammit, use your skate to stop the pass in Game 1 on the PP).

I haven't seen a lot of TB games the past few years, but my friend (who's probably the world's biggest Coburn fan) has, and he said that he's not a top-4 guys anymore, but would be great as a 6 or 7. So that's what I'm basing it off of. The guy's been to 2 Cup finals, and would be a good vet to replace AMac/Gudas on the back end for our fairly young d-core.

I’m just thinking of recent Tandems in Tampa, Nashville. Of course Tampa has to give up Bishop to let the young guy they got from Nashville to play. Bob isn’t playing every night in Columbus anyway. It was just something I’m thinking about.
