Absolutely correct. Their needs to be a major change in the cap going forward . Smaller market teams and Canadian teams all need to step up and share the burden equally and most of all make a honest effort to put a team together that fans will want to see and spend their money on. Arizona was originally the Winnipeg jets, the reason they left Winnipeg was due to the ability to produce a profit.

Apparently it's more about mismanagement because Winnipeg now has a team again.

I'd like to see the cap start around 100 million being the floor and the ceiling 120. Also no penalties for LTIR and shifting players to the AHL or players retiring early eliminate guaranteed contracts.

William Nylander since signing his new $7mil contract...

20 games played
1G
3 A
-9

LOL

- EnzoD

Sounds like he could have held out for $8M with that kind of performance.

Things will be fine in "Willie World" - he shaved his beard off so he can play better. But the coach is scrambling for reasons why not to scratch him.

If you look down the list of the top 20 scorers, Willie makes more than most of them. Leafs are going to regret that contract.

I just don’t see how they can afford Marner and Matthews without moving a $6mil+ salary player out.

Of course it makes to much sense lol. The other problem is the players union and bettman. Bettman IMO needs to go to bring in a fresh new person who can take the NHL to new heights.

The players union I understand why they exisist ,, but in reality unions are more about their power and profit than actually doing what's right as a whole.

Agree with you on ferland he would be perfect for the hawks 3 to 4 years 3 mill per be my guess. Ferland AA IF NOT TRADED kauhn
Perlini kampf hayden/ Caggulia not bad bottom six but i think AA is moved Perlini needs to show more to be resiged. Sign myers or stralman to stablize d core sign simmond / stone / nyquist in offseason now all this depends on who hawks draft and where they pick. Justin any trade rumors swirling or all quiet for now.

- Scott1977

I would love to see Ferland in a Hawks sweater. He has overcome some personal demons to become the man and hockey player he is today.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/...ng-sobriety-path-forward/

Versatile guy who can seamlessly play up and down the lineup, and has proven it on two teams now. Still fairly young. High character individual. Tough SOB.

I expect it may happen. However Since his injury Matthews doesn't seem to be so eager to compete. Also his trademark toe drag and bring the puck into his feet to shoot moves aren't working as they used to. If he's not careful he may not be in line for the huge payday he was hoping for. As of now Marner as overtaken Matthews as the better of the two players. Marner competes harder, is less predictable, is a better playmaker and is now starting to be less selfless and is shooting at the net with positive results.

I heard that Stan is looking at a lot of options, but haven't heard anything specific.

I think he could be busy though over the next month.

Someone will overpay for Ferland, both in terms of what goes to Carolina in trade and what he will sign for as a UFA. Don't let it be the Hawks. Ferland is a nice piece for a contending team, he isn't what a rebuilding club needs to build around.

Tyler I just read a article and it states saad , anismov and Keith are available for trade. According to the article Chicago is looking for picks and young nhl ready prospects . Then it goes on to say Chicago future looks bright with free agency , their young defensive prospects and Chicago's standings being in last place guarantees them either kako or Hughes.

Will Stanley be able to turn things around.

The idea would never fly because it would be financial suicide for the league. Teams like Carolina, Nashville, Columbus, Arizona, Florida and Dallas would lose a boatload of money each year.

That's the problem is they have owners who are to cheap to bother trying to actually market and put together a winning organization.

Don't take my word , but just look at teams such as Arizona, Ottowa, Carolina, islanders . Arizona is the poster child of mismanagement going from Winnipeg to phoniex only years of horrible management go into bankruptcy. Yet Winnipeg finally got a team back into their market and the turnaround is amazing.

Ottowa the owner says enough about how cheap he is or the islanders with their previous owner.

Imo if the league is going to handout franchises , these owners must be financially sound with a solid financial and business plan to survive the market but exceed and in doing so produce a product that shows the fans and league they are committed to winning.

Why did it take this long to put a team in Las Vegas,. I think they set the standard as to how a new team should approach and come into it's first season I applaud them.

If he could be signed at a distant term he might provide the toughness the hawks need while still being a useful player

TC, I am not so sure that Stan goes after a top 4 defenseman. One of the things needed to play man on man is having quick skating players to keep up. Correct me if I am wrong, but most of the big stay at home defenseman, as most are calling for, are a bit slower typically. They already have Seabrook who can barely keep up, and Murphy who isn't the best skater. I think they will build the defense from within, and let the young guys mature. Maybe they get a mobile top 4 guy in free agency, but I don't see them going for one of those defensive defenseman unless they can really skate well.

I agree with your point. Stan IMO will target a top 6 player or 2 depending upon how much cap space he is able to free up before free agency. He will look to fix the bottom 6 and probably add another versatile and reliable center.

I'm not a big Nylander fan but I think he's a much better player than what he's showing so far this season. Just goes to show how much missing training camp and not playing competitive hockey for months can affect how long it takes to get back to the normal level of play.
- EbonyRaptor

Toronto is a tough place to play in. The media and fans will be all over him because he sat out and it is affecting his game right now. He needs a change of scenery, but his contact is a heavy so it will be tough to move.

I also read that Dubas promised Nylander he wouldn't move him if he signed the contract. Dubas will have to watch how he handles this because that sets a presedence for the next young player is thinking about resigning with the Leafs.

Imo the leafs organization got ahead of their skies by promising they would win the cup this year and their judgement became clouded with handling contracts now and future signings by over committing salary dollars.

Imo the team that looks well buildt and will win the cup this year is Tampa. Toronto will get knocked out in the first round just because the pressure to win the cup will affect the teams focus.

Here's a link to an article with Colliton commenting on Crow's current health status. Based on this I don't see Corey returning this year which I am not surprised at.

Looks like Stan will be in the same pickle he was last summer regarding the goalie situation. i.e Will Corey be available for next season? Does he sign sign a veteran backup as a placeholder if he's not ready? Go on the cheap with Delia and Forsberg?

Bingo... why can't the Canes sign Ferland.

What's your take on him and how much do you think he signs for?

I've been a fan of his for a while.

- Justin Lowe

By all accounts he just wants to go to UFA status.

Allegedly he's looking for more than $6 million per to keep him from getting there. He claims to like Raleigh, and he brings something that they haven't had in a long time, but I think he also understands that he's probably going to have a short career because of the way he plays and he's probably only going to get this one chance to cash in.

So he's asking for the Hurricanes to overpay him, or he's going to look to get overpaid in UFA instead. Everybody likes him, but there's a real high risk of him being David Clarkson all over again here.
