I'm not gonna disagree with the fact that he played bad as the starter for them, but as if I were a team that needs a cheap backup on my team with experience I would consider it. Especially if the Hawks eat half the salary and only ask for a late round pick
- Savetheembers33

By all means, move him. I didn't like the signing in the 1st place. I just think team are going to look at his numbers and think they can do better elsewhere.

yet GM will hand a 28 year old duchene who hit 30 goals once and not near 60 pt in 3-4 years 8 mil per for 8 years....
- bogiedoc

You have a point. We see it all the time. Players always seem to overachieve right before their next contract and once they get their new contract not all but a lot of players go MIA .

The other issue is the talent level and massive drop off. So we have a few players who become available and 15 to 20 teams vying for their service because their isn't much in free agency beyond those few who can address the teams needs.

I think just about everyone would like to have Hammer back on this team right now, but yeah Murphy is showing that he's a legit D-Man and Stan did well in getting a young cost controlled D-man to help with the future. Unfortunately he didn't seem to mesh with Q and everyone wanted to s#!t on him and call it a horrible trade right off the bat.
- Savetheembers33

Defensemen in general had a hard time adjusting to Q. Oduya got it eventually but after he served up a few pizzas. He seemed to like Jokiharju though.

How realistic that the rookie with greatest impact next season is the Russian; a RW, looking good in training camp and WJC

Sorry if I am repeating anyone here, but Powers has an article on Joki regarding deployment and playing time. He said that the plan for the rest of the year (since returning from WJC) is to rotate the younger/newer guys. This was explained to Jokinand he understands why.

There are/were concerns about him getting burnt out and needing to learn more about what is expected of defensemen in this system. For what it’s worth, other personnel people believe this is the right way to go with him.

I know anything can happen come playoff time but I just don't see Toronto making it past the 1st round.

Tampa right now is just well buildt and I think this is their year

Leafs currently have a good team. But, good enough to win the Cup? Not even close with that D.

Oh great. Now the lurking Leaf fans will show up and explain how every player is taking cap friendly deals.

Yeah, I remember Q talking about that concern for Joki when he was here too.
I just hope he gets the support he needs to continue his development.

I was, but then the dude chopped his hand up while making sweet potatoes.

Getting Nino for him is a coup. I honestly thought the Canes were going to have to waive Rask.

Instead, they were able to get Nino for him, who is basically just a more skilled, less gritty version of Ferland, who the Canes can't sign.

So the trade solves our Ferland problem AND gets us out of a $4 million contract for our 4C who, honestly, just seemed too slow and too passive. Nice guy, but it wasn't happening for him and I doubt it will. His best year came playing C for Jeff Skinner.

- BINGO!

Bingo... why can't the Canes sign Ferland.

What's your take on him and how much do you think he signs for?

I've been a fan of his for a while.

Btw, Strome has 19 points in 26 games with the Hawks. He had 16 points in 48 games for AZ.

If Perlini can step up his game to be solid bottom 6 player, this trade is a slam dunk for SB.

- tvetter

Strome has been solid. I'm really happy with him so far.

Also, don't sleep on Perlini. He was really, really good at times in Arizona. He's a big guy with speed and a great shot. He's taking longer to figure his role out but my take is he's definitely worth resigning in the offseason (Stan can now get him on the cheap) and see if he can find his game in the bottom 6.

Things will be fine in "Willie World" - he shaved his beard off so he can play better. But the coach is scrambling for reasons why not to scratch him.

If you look down the list of the top 20 scorers, Willie makes more than most of them. Leafs are going to regret that contract.

Agree with you on ferland he would be perfect for the hawks 3 to 4 years 3 mill per be my guess. Ferland AA IF NOT TRADED kauhn
Perlini kampf hayden/ Caggulia not bad bottom six but i think AA is moved Perlini needs to show more to be resiged. Sign myers or stralman to stablize d core sign simmond / stone / nyquist in offseason now all this depends on who hawks draft and where they pick. Justin any trade rumors swirling or all quiet for now.

Cam Ward is trash, tho. He has had the worst or near the worst numbers for the last ten years. He played in front a good defense in Carolina and was a huge reason why they failed to make the playoffs for 8 years.
- Elbows15

Look, the trash defense in front of our goalies are to blame. Ward was not brought in here to win a cup.

Even with a great defense, Ward is trash. He has been sporting a sub .900 SV% for years. Or very close to it.

No one knows why Ward was brought here.

I'm not a big Nylander fan but I think he's a much better player than what he's showing so far this season. Just goes to show how much missing training camp and not playing competitive hockey for months can affect how long it takes to get back to the normal level of play.
