The organization has a lot of bodies already, I don't see any free agent signings, not to mention the owner might have Benning on a short leash for free agents after he's wasted millions on Eriksson, Gagner, Schaller, Beagle and MDZ.
- LeftCoaster

Was it Bennings idea to sign Eriksson?

MDZ played 82 games last year and cost Canucks about 1.7 this year for 23 games

Beagle is earning a steady paycheck

Schaller has played 32 games

Loui has played 47 games this year

So it is really only Gagner

Pirri makes 650k or something. Double his salaryx2 for s guy who can score 15-20.
MDZ gone Gagner bought out Schaller depth and the immovable Loui...you are probably right.

I was ecstatic getting Luke Schenn into the organization.

It doesn't matter who's idea it was, he's the GM, if you're trying to blame someone else you can probably put 50% of it on Linden but they still signed him...any way you slice it, it's been a colossal failure.

You don't get value for games played my friend, Eriksson, Gagner, Schaller and MDZ have been terrible signings and wasted millions, not that it really hurt them, I'm just saying Aquilini might put the brakes on spending his money foolishly on any more UFA's.

I'd say kinda neutral, despite my lack of love for Mr. Benning there's been some obvious progress and I think his mindset isn't what it was when he came here, for whatever reason? I think the owner stopped leaning on him to be competitive.

For all the missteps, that I feel are missteps, there's growth and that's important.

Maybe it was linden holding him back

As I just said to Vantel, my comment was more about the owner putting the brakes on free agent signings with Benning's lack of success there.

Aquilini is probably looking at Eriksson and his 35 points at 6 mil and EP40 and his 70 pts for a combined 7 mil for 105 points . Last year that cost hi 14 mil from the last GM . That's a 50 % savings

He is probably looking at Brocks 60 pts for 1 mil and Bo's 60 pts for 5.5 and sees 120 pts for 6.5 mil.

You just can't look at one bad contract .

As I said, there's been more than one bad contract, Eriksson, Gagner, MDZ and Schaller have all been poor signings and might scare Aquilini out of the market.

They're paying Gagner 3 million dollars to not play for them, they paid MDZ half the year to sit in the pressbox and Schaller plays five minutes a game if he plays at all for 2 million. Eriksson, Gagner, and Schaller cost the owner and the GM ten million in cap space for little return.

I just think Aquilini might shy away from UFA's when discussing things with Benning. Or maybe he won't? I'm just guessing.

The team needs a top six forward, or two, and a top three defenseman if they want to make a playoff push next year and be sucessful. I hope they can find that because I'd like to see them make it next year if not the year after.

I think you are wrong. Aquilini tweets quite often and he is stoked about this team so I don't think he is sitting there counting pennies.

Right now he has saved about 23 mil in cap space this year and his team is the best it has been in 6 years.

They started the year with spending 12 mil less cap space than last year. Injuries accumulated .Dorsett 2.65 Gagner being sent down 1 mil saved. Bringing in Gaudette at 700k when Sutter was on LTIR . Beagles replacemet Edlers replacement and Tanevs replacement will accumulate to about 23 mil less out of FA's pocket this year. You can call it anything you like.

You only save cap space with the LTIR, not owners money.

That's what makes the Nylander contract look good. Him + Marner × Matthews ÷ Tavares = all those points for near league minimum.

Nylander contract = bad
Eriksson = not bad, cos you add it

True.

If anything, injuries cost him more money, as he has to pay Gaudette and others their NHL wages on top of the injured players salaries.

Are you saying TO has terrible management because of Nylander.

Canucks also have put him on LTIR both of his contract years so far at TDL so they only paid 4 mil .

Who pays the player when on LTIR the insurance company or the owner? If it is the owner why bother with insurance?

If they get Luc Bourdon’ed.

Nah, I actually don’t know, that’s a good point. I’m not sure when/how the insurance kicks in, and how much they pay.

At the beginning of the year Canucks were 12 mil under the cap which is a savings of 12 mil if you spent to the cap ceiling. WE can all agree that is a savings of 12 mil I hope. Derrik Dorsett was part of that cap hit (2.65) . Who paid that out to Dorsett ? The owner or the insurance company?

If it is the owner the savings remain at 12 mil. If it is the insurance company then Aquilini has paid 14.65 mil less than the cap ceiling. I have a strong suspicion it was the insurance who paid Dorsett.
